Tech sales / account management consultant income

I am talking to a company based in Canada who might need me to work as their consultant and I want to send them a proposal but I am not sure about how to price it. Are there any points of reference maybe from someone who has been doing it and may be able to advice?

Let's say you help them shape a sales / customer experience strategy and spend 20 hours on this work. How would you bill it?

This has gone on long enough, you hooligans!
Rosie - You can set your own rate here. If you're truly capable of designing, executing and implementing a sales process AND a CX process at the same time, you are well within you rights to tell them they should hire you because your $500 USD rate that you normally get for short term projects is likely to price you out of competition. Talk them out of the consulting role and into a 90-day independent contractor role at $15k/mo or some such arrangement. Then, do what you can to parlay that into a permanent position.

Otherwise, the math to arrive at your pricing is this:

Take the sum of how much you think you can get and add 10%. Be willing to negotiate to the number that's the max you think you can get and not a penny less.

If you can't get as much as you think you can get, set your floor at how much you need, which in every case should be at least $420.69 per hour.
My work here is done.

Is this a true consulting role, or one of those things where they just call you a 'consultant' so you don't seem like a salesperson?

Bill them for your time and expertise. How much value do you see yourself giving them?
Start high and see what they want to negotiate with.

I have been thinking to bill $5k for a week of work 5 hours a day excluding taxes. Is this realistic?

I am exactly the person they need for the job because of my experience but I have never worked as a consultant before - always as an employee

I'm not familiar with Canada laws, but in the US, employees are also provided benefits as well as automatically having SSI and other required items (like taxes) withheld. You should look into the equivalent of being a 10-99 employee (independent contractor) in Canada and what the impacts are, and then charge accordingly.

Sorry my question came off aggressive, I guess I was trying to ask how you would metric the success/time spend.

According to SalesGPT
Based on the insights from Bravado members, there are several ways you could charge for a customer experience strategy consultation. One approach is to charge an hourly rate for your services. As one member mentioned, they charged a minimum per hour for their services (around $175), and an upfront percentage of commission due immediately for sales.Another way could be charging based on a tiered rate card as discussed in PS service charges. Many organizations that sell bundles calculate the mix of skills they anticipate and come up with a blended rate to simplify their pricing. In terms of managing scope creep, it might be helpful to provide a certain number of hours of PS as part of onboarding. Once those hours run out, you could charge by the hour or package of hours. The packages could differ based on the technical level needed. Finally, you can structure your pricing against 3-4x fully-burdened cost, as suggested by one member who has set up hardware/software PS teams. Rates may be different per employee role.Remember, how you charge for consulting largely depends on the nature of the project, your expertise, and the client's budget among other factors.

A quick search on LinkedIn jobs would show you what the market is giving at the moment - though it wouldn't be what you are worth, but at least you'd get an idea of what other companies are offering.

Whatever you do make sure that you include an hourly minimum for the contract. That way you can throw out a number your comfortable with regardless if you hit the hours or not.
