Outsourcing sales development

Has anybody outsourced SDR's in the past (like you would for example lead sourcing/ contact enrichment via upwork). If so, what was your experience / demo quality like?

Success usually depends on your product and your TAM. If you sell an uber complicated, machine learning, AI driven data topography mapping synergies solution - probably hire and build within.  If you sell something that's high volume, easy to digest value prop - outsourcing can save you a ton of time and expense in building out, maintaining, managing an internal SDR team.  My perspective comes from running an internal SDR team, using an outsourcer, and selling outsourced sales services - all at different points of my career.

This is good advice, thank you. I've outsourced before and they actually did a great job for us, but my current companies product may be too complex to expect ROI from an outsourced team. I'm leaning towards hiring internal for that reason.

Which outsourced firm did you use? I'm at an early stage startup, considering hiring an outsourcing firm to supplement lead gen as we build out our internal team

EBQuickstart out of Austin, TX. Talk to Brent Walrath, he runs Sales. They’re more expensive than overseas help, minimum $5K/month, but they were highly effective for the company I was with at the time.

We did once. It worked for the smaller segments where the deal complexity was minimal and knowledge about an account was not as important due to sheer volume. It failed miserably for the enterprise sized accounts since the outsourced team did not have the same knowledge of the accounts and stakeholders.

I was at a start up ~200 employees selling a SaaS cybersecurity tool. They decided to outsource SDRs and essentially the VP sales wrote a script and provided a list of accounts with their main HQ phone number. Also they were told the classic "that's a better question for the AE, why don't we set up a call to discuss" line when they were asked any question.

It was a disaster,  very rarely did people show up for the meetings and if they did it was awkward as neither side knew at all what to expect.
