The market for sdr managers is shrinking. I see less and less reqs open for sdr mgmt over time. I'd assume there are other factors that are making it hard for you but just in general, not many openings.

As companies are cutting sales teams they are tasking AEs with being full cycle. Sourcing, qualifying and closing their own business. Fewer SDRs mean fewer managers, and some SDR teams now report to marketing or traditional VP leaders.

This makes a ton of sense. It's the way it used to be, SDRs can be great but aren't necessarily necessary.

And before anybody asks, they're not being replaced by AI. Their jobs are being taken over by AEs now transitioning into full cycle.

Exactly. Those AEs might be leveraging a bit of AI for their outreach and organization, but it's just going back to the way it was.

I think that all sales roles are having a hard time landing. It's just the current condition of the sales force.

Yeah, it's across the board. Leaner orgs all over right now.

I've always been full-cycle as an AE so I can't really form a non biased opinion.

SDR leaders are an easy cut back since SDRs can role up to a Sales Manager very efficiently. Personally, I would not focus on that as a job.

Unfortunately, I am seeing the SDR teams get hit harder with layoffs, small sample size

We got rid off a few SDRs and I know some are still struggling which is proportion to managers

Aaaaaah. My partner was an SDR leader. He was a fine SDR leader, like really good. And every time he interviewed with a company, he realised how scarce SDR leaders are. And there’s always requirement for one or two SDR leaders in the firm.
So it’s not the role that’s shrinking, if you ask me. It’s the market.
SDRs, SDR managers are all an easier bet to layoff for now and have AEs do the task.
But I am sure once the market opens up, things would be better for SDRs as well; just like everyone else.
