Market value OTE averages for SaaS AE position

Curious what the community thinks to be as the OTE average for a SaaS AE role. $135K? $170K+? Is it dependent on experience level or should it be level assuming the same title OR should there be tiers to the position?

There are soooOOoOoOO many factors here. It can range from like $90K to $600K+, but it depends on a lot of things.

vp of enterprise sales sure is. Maybe no IC (or exceedingly rare) but managers certainly see that sort of comp

Yeah he said AE position. Also, I doubt that. Highly. Total comp yes, but not OTE. a lot of CXO positions in the startup world are 350-500

It depends upon the company, location, experience, tiers...

Where the AE is located can also be a factor.

Noted, I’ll provide some hypothetical ranges we’re looking for:
Tier 1:
-1-4 yrs experience
-deal size avg $80K
-quota $500K
-location: remote
Tier 2:
-4+ yrs experience
-deal size avg $100K
-quota $850K
-location: remote

A revenue producing employee should produce at least 5x their expense. So if your quota is 500k, your OTE should be $100 - $130k. Because quota is minimum. Id put your base around 70 here and let you chase the rest.
If your quota is 850k, your OTE should be 160-200k. Because quota is minimum. I’d put your salary around 120 here and let you chase the rest.

It also depends if this is a hunter role or not. I would agree with you more or less if it was net new. If it included renewals at all I’d be going down 20% at least.

I'm going to agree with GrizzleMcThornbody.   It's been a long time since I've had 1-4 years of experience, but the math is on target.  Also, net-new (hunter) vs renewal (account management) from TechSalesQueen is on target. Some smaller orgs like mine are a little more generous with comp for new ARR at established customers and it doesn't affect my OTE.

When I talked about "where" - a former company I worked at would pay remote employees in a state like Utah or Tennessee less than they would pay for ones in California or NY.   It's a cost of living factor, and they paid more accordingly.

Need way more details here on things like average deal size, quota, years of experience - this question is vague and not in a helpful way
