To All My Fellow AE's PLEASE DONT BE LIKE THIS!

As an AE I do not get to BUY things very often,


But at my new company Im helping evaluate some sales tools....So I got the PLEASURE of going through a sales process and I am here to tell you (vent) about it.


I was looking to start a free trial that they offer. I submit the form, the SDR reached out asks me a few questions and sets me up with the AE.......


As soon as the AE joins the call I knew I was about to get REAL upset.


We are both on camera, he never looks into the camera once. Idk what the fuck HE is looking at but he didnt care that I was there.


Asks me questions the SDR already asks me. I FUCKING HATE THIS COME ON DUDE DO YOUR FUCKING JOB!


I can tell this guy gives ZERO FUCKS about this conversation.....so I am just loosing interest by the second.


Asks me broadly about my ICP then just starts showing me random data on the platform.


He never once:

  1. asked me what I want to see
  2. showed any real interest in me or my goals
  3. demonstrated an ounce of decency on the call.


I just wanted to stop and say "dude are you fucking kidding me right now? this is a terrible experience"


Instead I just dropped off the call as fast as possible and I guess Ill just stay with who we have now.

In my current role im on the receiving end of a lot of pitches and its always so enlightening to me. I take stuff back to my team constantly on what works to sell me and what doest (spoiler alert, its nothing you dont already know)

Recently we were evaluating salesloft and outreach. My dir of rev ops and I both went into the buying process thinking we were going to purchase outreach but wanted to do our due diligence so we took a meeting with salesloft as well.

Well, the outreach AE was fucking terrible, very similar to what you outlined above and the Salesloft AE was AWESOME. She gave a shit about what our goals were. Asked what we couldn't live without, made sure we were bought in every step on the way, made sure onboarding was taken care of and smooth. 

Low and behold we sign a 2 year contract with salesloft and didn't hear another word from outreach until yesterday (mind you we signed our contract 4 months ago)

And the takeaway? Just give a shit about the person you’re talking to! And follow up.

I get a ton of cold calls /pitched coming my way too- and a guy from gong (who I now just call « stalker ») finally got the best of my temper. Called me 6 times in a row? I finally pick up, he’s like did I get you at a bad time? I say yes, actually. He continues to talk, I say I know what you guys do and I appreciate your effort but like I said this isn’t a good time .. he keeps talking. I say hey hey hey .. HEY.. I have to go, ok? Good luck. Called me everyday for 2 weeks - after this..I finally answer and gave him the are you kidding me right now? He goes well you said it was a bad time last time I called sooooo. … I mean. … 



he wasn’t wrong lmfao.. but how the f does that approach work with anyone ?

Bro just tell the dude you aren’t interested. What the hell do you expect with such a soft decline?

Just use words. If he caught you at a bad time, that’s the “I’m actually in a meeting right now” excuse. Which has two options, either “ok I’ll follow up later, have a nice day” or they don’t believe you and will push because a no is better than a maybe.

Just tell people no if that’s what you want.

Beans, the Gong rep (if he called you six times in a row and talked over you repeatedly) is an asshole.  No need to reward that aggressiveness.  Being a go-getter is great.  Hounding someone is just plain harassment.  BDRMadoff, yes, Beans could have said, “Never call me again”.  But you are intimating that this rep is so stupid that he doesn’t know what his prospect is saying because Beans didn’t tell him to go to hell.  C’mon, man.  He was calling EVERY day.  Does he only have one account?  He was being a douche.

in this case the SDR did very little but to his credit, he did everything he was asked to do and did it really well. 

i think it would have been better if I didnt talk to the SDR. Send me straight to the AE first, that would have saved everybody time.
