Too pushy or is prospect a dick?

So fellow sales savages, i've had multiple meetings with this prospect over the past 2 weeks, everything has been great and got a verbal yes to close by end of month. today he shoots an email stating lets wait till end of february to get my team up to speed - (keep in mind with the way my product works, it would take about a month or so to get integrated with their team anyway) - so i did what i feel like anyone would do and said "hey we can wait but just a reminder that if we moved a long it would take a month" then followed up again and told him again - if none of this works lets pick it up in february.

then responds like this:

"you just killed this for me"

proceeded to cancel our meeting for later this week with a "no longer interested"

Was i being too pushy (he has known about our timeline and mentioned that our end of fiscal was january so iwanted to make it happen and he agreed) I am also way past quota so i was just trying to bring up numbers for the company but like ??? need other input.

Fuck this person or did i fuck up?

He was never planning on signing next month. Just didnโ€™t have the balls to be honest. โ€œYou just killed this for meโ€ was an easy bitch out for him. Forget him and move on.ย

That is so fucking stupid. No, I'd have done exactly what you did. If one assertive email made him cancel the deal he's a pussy and wasn't gonna get the deal signed. And do you really want to work with a guy like that? Yeah you want the deal but probably not.ย

"Hi Mr Prospect,

I have to say I'm a bit confused, what about my past email offended you? Seems like you took something in a way I did not mean it. That one message killed this entire project for you?

Would love to get on the phone and hash this out. However, if you're not open to that, maybe we wouldn't have worked well together anyways"

If it were me I'd have written that exact email and there's probably a 50-50 chance I send it or not lol

Absolutely, any more time spent on him wouldโ€™ve caused more stress and cycles to get the same no. Better to get the no now and have more time to go after people who actually will matter.

He might be hunting a big discount. If he comes back next week and asks for 40% off because itโ€™s your end of fiscal, tell him no.ย

Did he know that there was a 1-month implementation schedule?ย  I don't think you said anything too pushy.ย  I would have also leaned back on your discovery questions of "when do you want to have something in place?" - if you asked it.ย  ย ย

He knew about it and reminded him in the email. I did lean on some of the points from my discovery call - was too long to put in this post. But I only said once to lets try and told him multiple times that we can wait if not interested. I just was taken back by his response and so was my director and sales engineer who were on the two calls prior.ย

If someone actually wanted the product, was a good fit, had the money, they would not respond like this.

Sounds like they wanted to back out, but didn't want to make it look like it was their fault so he made you look like the bad guy.

Rule #1 - Prospects lie. People donโ€™t want to say no. You shouldโ€™ve gotten to it quicker unfortunately and not wasted 2 weeks of your time. Sometimes itโ€™s unavoidable though, get back on the horse and move to the next sale.

I follow-up every meeting with mutual next steps, lined out. Gives dozens of chances for the prospect to be like "hold up". They don't always... but it gives them the chance.ย

Heโ€™s a dick. ย A small one. ย Overcompensatingย with โ€œbig guyโ€ talk when itโ€™s obvious he was either trying to stall you to see what budgets look like in a new fiscal year, or quarter, ย or he just wasnโ€™t even funded, or authorized to close deals anyway.
