Generally, 100% commission pay plans aren’t ideal.

Even at the start of my sales career selling cars, I still had a guaranteed base even though it wasn’t much.

Sounds like it could be a scam.  Depends on the commission.

It’s hard. Building a pipeline takes time. The commission has to be amazing to even consider it.

They are hugely stressful if you have any regular bills, student loans, a mortgage, etc. That said, if you have a stockpile of cash to cushion you, some of the roles can net you large earnings.

Exactly this. You need to be very disciplined and already financially secure orrrr a total beast to take one.

I've done it before. As @poweredbycaffeine mentioned they can be hugely stressful. I did not have a cushion, base pay, or anything so I was working side jobs to pay the bills. After a year I did not have the clientele to make it sustainable and made it a side hustle.

It will be a GRIND. More than a high performing seller grinds most likely. Be prepared for months with no income, and you'll need to be incredible disciplined in your spend, time management, and habits while you develop a book of business.

It's worse than a minimum wage job. At least at Subway I'd get to Eat Fresh for a guaranteed paycheck

I did it for 10 years. Home improvement sales are typically 100% commission. The highs are high and the lows are low. Would only recommend trying if you are young and have few expenses.

My Dad has been this way for his entire sales career. It's an absolute grind every single day and he always had to have the mentality when he was younger, that he could not allow himself to go home until he made some money. Some days you make $10k without any effort, other days you'll make $0 trying extremely hard. He's always wished he had a base, but at this point in his life, he doesn't know any other way.

Would walk away from any interview the second it was revealed it was commission only.

A salary is a direct reflection on a company's willingness to invest in your success.

Both the parties need to have some skin in the game. Most of the times companies roll out commission only sales roles to test the market, whether product would sell or not. If they had conviction in their product they would invest in good sales talent. And not scout for Zero Base + Commission roles.

Did it but in the mortgage industry where it’s common place. Even then though, most get a 3 to 6 month draw or guarantee of you’re lucky
