What are your thoughts on making the most out of chaos.

Hear me out, my company isn't the best structured. We have an awesome product in healthcare. Here's the thing, mentioned it before, no path to National Sales Director because it's a big jump.

Now, suddenly I'm the only SDR directly working with my VP and Directors. I just attended a conference with them and honestly f**k my title because I'm doing more at this point.

I already asked one of my directors to let handle introductions on calls. This is a good first step in the right direction to gaining the closing experience I want.

Especially after burning out job hunting I want to give myself a break. I want to know if it's wise to network internally until they give me the customer success role or create an AE one. They just magically created one for the VP's son so I know it's possible.

What is your opinion on this approach, is it a good use of time?

So you’re an SDR and suddenly feel you should be running the show? Hmmm.

I would sit tight, stay in your lane, gain experience and knowledge, then wait for the market to right itself and move up the ladder.

There will be a time when you’re convinced that you’ve amassed enough “extra effort” capital to justify merchandising it. At that point, do a few more things to show your commitment.

Then ask for what you want. Yes, carpe diem.

This is great advise. Do just a bit more than you would think is needed

Only he knows why but he is not saying anything. Speculation is that he was not happy with the writers not sticking to the story line and he is a die hard fan of the books.

Do the best you can at the job you have. Take on more responsibilities as they make sense. Learn all you can. Maybe you’ll make some inroads there, but you are right, there’s a huge jump from SDR to Regional Sales Director. You’ve got a lot to learn before you can make that big of a jump. But the skills you learn are going to also suit you well at another job, should a suitable next step role not materialize where you are.

Thats a massive jump so probably not going to be the first step. In your next 1:1 make one of your agenda points your career development. Set specific measurable goals that you can work towards to make the next step up. Make sure to have a regular cadence to review it (every 6 weeks is good in my experience). Then make sure you are amazing at your current role and the progression will come.

Sometimes you can bank up on these situations and make the most of it. The last firm I was in, was running all their resources to the ground. I was almost the top performer by the time all the others started leaving. For me to stay, I had asked for xx appraisal, a change in title and added responsibility that sounded exciting to me.
That - they did. All this gave a huge jump to my career.

Be direct with leadership on what you can be doing to land an AE role, having a bigger role in the intro is a good step. But make sure the AE knows the plan
