That's a lot of questions that are difficult to answer without knowing why you're asking or what the end goals are.

The short answer is that sales gets a bad rap due to bad reps doing a bad job. Either they are sleazy or they lie to get the sale, and that perspective carries over.

Don't lie, be honest, be consultative, be genuine, do what you say you're going to do. I'm a problem solver in my role, and act as such.

Salespeople have gotten a black eye over time. Most of it caused by bad ones. If you're ever called "salesy" it's time to change methodology. But... before this becomes a rant, why are you asking?

You can be great at sales and bad at leadership.

You can be terrible at sales but great at project management.

Not all people in sales are extremely extroverted.

Not all people in sales like talking to people for hours on the phone or in person.

Sales is about being open minded, learning the business, and staying positive.

If you can't do those 3 things, you'll sink quick.

Great question; but we need more depth here.

I would say a misconception is that everyone in sales is loaded with cash.

Top performers, yes, but it's a grind to get to truly higher earning potential.

I’m not sure your intent here but if you want general misunderstandings, one which comes to mind is Math.

You need to do the math for your prospects so they can see costs, ROI, and any other metrics which are important to the sales process. This is important because if you don’t do the math for them, they will do the math themselves and they will usually get it very wrong.

Hope that helps.

I’m just looking for miss understandings about sales In general you had a great angle. I was looking for anything from stigmas to generalization.

Some people think I go door to door like I’m selling steak knives.

Or the fact people think I’m golfing and drinking with clients all day every day ( I wish!)

Sales is just like everything else in life, there's always idiots that make some professions look bad. I believe the best strategy is to just do your job like how you would want to be treated. It's the Golden Rule.
