Why are Content Syndication leads always fake?

I feel like every company I work at dishes out these garbage content syndication leads that claim these prospects downloaded a whitepaper, yet when I speak to them they have no clue what I'm talking about.

I understand they could be lying, but some of them genuinely have no idea what I'm talking about.

Has anyone else experienced this or know how these leads are generated?

We get leads from this all the time and they are never fake, sounds like a marketing issue (shocking) and if I were you id just stop working those if they are all indeed garbage.

That happened to us last year.   I'd follow up on a download, and when I actually got a hold of someone, they had zero idea what I was going on about.

Since others have said it's not garbage, I'm wondering if we had the same bad data from marketing as the real issue.

It's likely a bot or fraud farm. It's annoying when it's small-scale, but if you start seeing it a lot you'll want to look at something that blocks those users from interacting with your page. Or marketing will at least.

I haven't got much success converting them because many a times they aren't the right ICP but except a few rest know what I'm talking about.

This happened to me in my previous role. Would get a download and shoot an email to the person who downloaded it, they'd instantly say they never downloaded anything or heard of us.
