Workplace Equipment - PC or Mac

I’m a Mac guy, not just because I prefer the Apple user experience, but I’m also too deeply invested in the ecosystem to turn back now, haha.

I’m onboarding with a new company and was pleasantly surprised to be issued a Macbook as my work laptop. I almost see it as a good omen since I feel like it communicates a willingness to invest in the workforce by providing what I would consider to be a more premium product.

PC is never a deal breaker in the grand scheme of things but I can’t help feel a little disappointed.

Is anyone else’s outlook influenced by the workplace equipment they’re issued during onboarding?

Are your impressions during onboarding influenced by the company laptop you’re issued?

100% PC.

And while we're at it...none of that Google docs 💩 either. Give me Microsoft office. Your company can't afford it? You probably can't afford me either.

Love the attitude. Might have to divorce you over the software.

I've only ever used Windows, but I'd be open to try something new.

First - congrats on the new opp! Next, I can’t say I would turn down the job if standard issue had any sort of Windows in it. But I would be really annoyed. It would suck. I might start sniffing glue or something. Maybe worse.

It’s never a deal breaker but yeah Mac is also common now a days and it shouldn’t be surprising ;)

Maybe not as common as you think with a lot of companies looking to cut costs.

Every company I have worked for has provided me with a Windows PC. I am an Apple guy through and through, but on the big-picture side of things, it is not a deal breaker.

Not particularly; if early stage startups are splurging on decked-out Macbook Pros I might take that as unnecessary splurging, which is a red-flag.

I'm a PC guy generally for gaming, but I will say their laptops are cheese. Works super well as part of an ecosystem.

First time using a Mac at my current role. Don’t love it, don’t hate it. Just making it work.

Companies financial health is more important than they type of equipment. If they're bootstrapped or trying to stay/get profitable it makes sense that they are not blowing cash on high end machines. At the same time they should be providing appropriate equipment for the role.

With all that said, give me a Mac!

I work for a manufacturer and our system only runs on Windows. That being said I don't really have a preference.
