Wtf does "Double On Target Earnings" mean?

Just got outreached by a recruiter about a job offering 75k+ in base DOT earnings. Was perplexed, so I asked him - his response:


"DOT means Double on Target Earnings - the base would be up to 75K". Doesn't really answer my question. Wtf does this mean?


Edit because bro answered my question: 75k base + 75k for hitting target + car compensation. This has to be some sort of scam...

Yeah I think this is just a weird way of phrasing “OTE is $150k, with a 50/50 base / commission split.”

Recruiter left out a word: 75k base, double that in OTE.

Or maybe it’s a scam, but I’d bet on a recruiter who’s either new to sales or doesn’t speak English as a first language.

If it was a LinkedIn post I'd say that the person made twice what their OTE is, but this is some weird fucking nonsense.

The cageyness of the recruiter is a red flag IMO.

Clearly they don’t know what it means either. Just sounds like a lot of pay, but likely isn’t.

In reality it will be you need to produce double your quota to hit target.

To make double you first need to know target.

Could simply be that rep is misspeaking and that top performers are making double their OTE.

Unfortunately, the saga has ended. He asked me if I had experience selling ERP or "turn-key" solutions. Again, was confused by what turn key meant. He said, essentially Saas.
I responded that I currently sell Saas but have never sold ERP solutions. He told me it wasn't a match. For some reason, I'm not really that sad...

Recruiters don’t typically understand sales pay structure unless they’ve worked with sales before. A few years ago, it took me and my recruiter 6 hours to nail down compensation for a new hire. I was telling her base plus variable (“70/70 for 140 OTE”) while she kept thinking of it in terms of a split (50/50 - she never mentioned/acknowledged what I said about OTE). It took our VP of sales ops to get us on the same page.
