0 Expectation of Outcome when cold calling

Been trying this lately, calling with absolutely 0 expectation of getting a meeting.

Of course, still trying to get one but more with the approach of "I'm checking to see if this is interesting to you or not" rather than putting pressure on myself to use every trick in the book and convince this guy to take a meeting.

For me, it makes it a lot easier mentally.

Any of you do this, or can share other cold calling jedi mind tricks?

Josh Braun says something similar, it’s definitely good for the mental health. Also could be smart for a long term sale since timing might just be off to meet

This came to mind almost immediately, right after Stoic philosophy.
He can be a bit annoying, but he's always espousing the need to detach from outcomes.

Can’t get too excited or too disappointed otherwise you will lose your mind in this job.

If you sound calm and confident, that often works.
Have you been finding that you are getting results with this technique?

Less resistance to calling, more dials, feeling calmer and more confident on the phone as a result of not feeling like I have to wrestle a meeting out of the prospect

Honestly, the prospect appreciates it too.

Being patient and letting things happen organically is a great way to attack sales.

Too many times however it becomes a fire alarm every month/quarter if we don’t meet numbers.

It's a mental win for sure.

Add on top the fact that they read that you don't "NEED" this meeting elevates your status too.

Outcome dependance is a big hurdle for newer cold callers. They get too focused on the result and afraid of failure that it impedes their ability to cold call successfully.

Be genuinely curious. Detaching from the outcome is a powerful thing. H/T: Josh Braun

A lof of sales trainers say this, but they aren't the ones with monthly quotas. It sounds good in theory, but when a large percentage of your income is tied to performance, it doesn't really work.

My mindset is: get an answer

I do not care id it’s a yes or a no.

The no’s will get me to a yes eventually

I love 'no'. It means I can take that person off my list and focus that time/effort on others

I like idea. if the buyer believes that you are adding value, they will let you more often than if they think you want to set an appointment. the more targeted you can be with your outbound calling, the greater chance you can deliver value over and over. this is also the best way to build longer term rapport with the potential clients. The best business relationships I have are based on my ability to bring value over and over again. sometimes you only have 15-20 seconds for that decision to be made over the phone. take advantage, be prepared, and be confident.
good luck.

“When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter
hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as
much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first
blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that last
blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”

I always take help of LinkedIn profiles / past intel or something that I might have found on the website because that way; I can start up a conversation and then ask about their interest in this particular tool.
I have never really asked about the tool, though. I always ask if they think there's room for more automation in that domain or so. That again gives me some more hook to build up on.

I do this except it's that I have zero interest in them answering because I'm terrified of cold calling so I hope that they don't. Then, unfortunately, they usually still don't answer.
