Any one working at web 3.0 company yet?

How's the space growing right now?

This describes my general reaction to "web 3".

The primary revenue stream seems to be rug pulling, so i don't know if they need salespeople...

Coinbase ain't web 3, they're eTrade for crypto. Web 3 is a myth perpetuated by a16z.

It's a commerce platform that is being developed for web3 usage.  I might be wrong, but that's what I understand from it

Per their blog ( https://blog.coinbase.com/a-simple-guide-to-the-web3-stack-785240e557f0) Coinbase defines Web3 as:

Web3 as a trustless, permissionless, and decentralized internet that leverages blockchain technology.

Coinbase is a centralized platform for trading crypto hosted in AWS, so I don't even think they'd meet their own definition.

so it's used by web3 as leverage, i get it! And it wouldn't. The whole point of web3 is a decentralized internet platform created for the user by other users of it.

It's a bubble - not worth making the pivot yet.

If it's a bubble, why the "yet"?

I’ve been prospecting them today and they’re not generally hiring for sales but engineering. Im selling consulting so it might be a fit for us, but in terms of actually selling Web3, it doesn’t exist yet, so it’s just something to keep an eye on for now.

I hear ya, I'm just keeping my ears open as it's something I feel that it'll def take over in the next few years.

Don’t talk about web 3 or the gremlins will quickly come out to shut you down.
I’d love to know why folks like Brain and PBC care so much about this space they have to chime in on these posts immediately

What's your opinion?

My opinion is that 99% of people hear "Web3" and their first thought is NFTs and Cryptocurrency. Both of which I agree are bubbles but is a small piece of the Web3 pie. What most of these folks fail to understand is that there is an underlying technology that can and will fundamentally change how we move about the world wide web. Just because it's in its infancy doesn't mean it's "make believe" or a myth.

Blockchain is as old as the iPhone. If it was so revolutionary it would've revolutionized something by now.

That’s an incredibly naive viewpoint, but sure. I can find commercials from the 90s talking shit about the internet and that came about in 1983. We all know what that morphed into today. If you’re going to argue against something you should probably have a better argument than “it wasn’t an overnight success so it must not be legit”

That's not what I said. I said Blockchain has been around since 2008. Yet we still hear "it's early". Think of how much progress other tech had made since 2008. It's niche, kludgy tech that's been desperately searching for a use case since for 14 years.

well if the NFT world isn't already changing how deals are being thought of for artists and contracts and all that, why not pay attention to the changes that are taking place. I hear you being cautionary about spending money on these types of things.

Also, big banks like Citibank ARE buying into blockchain technology, just a little sidebar there.

I've seen a lot of engineers make the move from big companies to web 3.0 startups and well wanted to hear what savages have heard, and it seems as though people don't like questions about change hahahahaah

Still haven’t figured out why all the disdain but that’s what happens with big change. Especially when it’s constantly jammed down peoples throats. I’ll be looking into getting involved with one around partnership sales/fundraising
