Best way to spend time between jobs

Hi! I'm planning on quitting my current role in early April and starting a new one in early May.

I anticipate a 2ish week gap. Overall, I want to set some good habits that will carry over to a fully remote role. I'm going to use the time to run/be more active and read a few sales books to prep for the new role.

Any other suggestions?

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I put my notice today and will likely have my access deactivated by EOD, so I should have more time between roles.

Make the most of the time off, build the habits but also enjoy it. Any chance of travelling somewhere, even if its just a week?

Potentially. Maybe somewhat of a staycation with my GF or visiting some family/friends I haven't seen in a while.

That's a great idea.

Do it! I had a similar situation a little while ago (i was also moving countries) but had a few weeks and just went and hit a ton of nice spots with friends and family and it was well worth it. Good chance to reset before the next job.

If you've not worked remotely before, adherence to routine is key. Bed-to-desk is really easy to fall into. It causes tunnel vision and burn out before you even know what happened. I treadmill, then go get coffee before work. Out of the house matters.

This wasn't really an answer to your question though. Go somewhere if possible. Different scenery, even if local, opens the dome. Whatever it takes to shed the old and be fresh for the new.

Best of luck with the new role!

I've done hybrid curretnly and full remote for about a year with Covid. Bed to desk was a big fear of mine!

I've got a few options some hybrid some fully remote. The fully remote is my top choice though.

Thanks for the advice @oldcloser!

Totally hear you there. I'm not perfect with this, but there's a Starbucks with a mile round trip that I made a point of walking to before logging on.

Working on not getting the coffee when I go and just doing the activity with a news podcast on.

I always feel great when I bike to work - it's great to start the day off accomplishing something. Thanks for the suggestion I can absolutely work something like that into my routine!

BTW, your username is really making me consider adding a playthrough of Gears of War onto the list

Don’t think about work. You will have time to do that. Sleep in, socialize, relax. You will be back working long hours and building stress in no time. Take this moment to take a breath!

Stay in a routine and stay busy. Worst part about being between jobs is falling out of a routine.

Commit to exercise and reading at LEAST one page of the book per day.

Thanks for the recs! I bought "the jolt effect" and will start that pretty and have a few non sales books I'd like to start as well.

I'll check these out as well!

We kind of get very optimistic and energetic before join the company but as others mentioned enjoy your time because you will be only working after that,L. If you are overall happy, you would love your new job

The only good habits I'd build in a two week gap from work would be making sure you get the right amount of sleep and start any exercise routine you intend to carry over.

The rest of what to do with that time off: those little things you haven't done because you've been working. Those trips or things you want to see: check those off. That painting or refinishing project? Do it. Come in refreshed and ready to start fresh. You deserve the time off, so make sure you enjoy it!

I suggest two books to read here within that month that should be getting you more adapted to the WFH environment.
Working Remotely: Secrets to Success for Employees on Distributed Teams by Holly Gordon, Mike Webber.&

Remote: Office Not Required by Heinemeier Hansson.
