Company lunch with CEO: etiquette?

New job, been here two weeks. Step down from my previous role (where I was laid off). Only took the job out of desperation. Have been applying and interviewing different places, no offers as of yet. Remote company, but a sizeable portion of people live in the area so the CEO is coming down for a lunch next week. Be about 35 people there (all the new people expected to show). Curious as to what the etiquette is here. I socialized with the CEO at most of the places I've worked, but those were all places I wanted to work at, so it made sense to network. Not sure about this situation. Do I keep my head down and hope that when I leave he doesn't remember me at all, or try to act normally?

No marketing, mayo isn't an MQL
Just be normal and act yourself this is more about the CEO showing his face to the new hires than anything else.

So long as you don't spit in his face you'll be fine

why would you not want the CEO to remember you?

if it was me? I would for sure make a priority to shake the CEO's hand and introduce my self. nothing crazy but i wouldnt just try to hide.

I guess I'm worried if I do end up leaving, down the road it could hurt me with other opportunities (job and sales). CEOs often talk with other CEOs, especially in the start up space.

I would really not worry about that because you can control how you leave a company for the most part. There is a good chance you can leave and not burn that bridge.

I think there is more to lose if the CEO never knows who you really are.

welcome to the war room, @Space_Ghost20! You’re a savage now. So practise that condescending stare and ensure you give it to everyone who’s trying to lick the CEO’s butt there !

Be polite. Don't be too filter-free while talking, don't overshare for the love of all gods. Don't bash anyone / anything. Don't gossip about ANYTHING.

That's all, I guess?

Be polite, chew with your mouth closed, don’t badmouth any one or anything and be friendly. If there’s alcohol, for goodness sake do not drink too much.

Introduce yourself, give him a firm handshake, tell him your new and happy to be on board. Then just be yourself, unless being yourself means you’re an obnoxious ’tard.

Be yourself and act normal, Network and greet the ceo. He doesn’t know you don’t plan to stay there. And who knows, after a few more weeks or months, what if you like it and want to stay? You never know what will happen, always set yourself up for success.

You're afraid your new CEO won't like you if you leave?

It will benefit you more to be polite and get to know him. You never know what network they have or how they can help you after your current role. I've had CEOs make recommendations, find jobs for old employees, etc.

They know people will leave. That's part of running a company.

1.) get as drunk as humanly possible, I’m talking wolf of Wall Street lunch with Matthew Mconaghy drunk with the CEO
2.) make sure you tell him all your ideas for how to make the company better and what he is doing wrong
3.) see if the waiter can slip you some nose candy

im just kidding don’t do any of this, the CEO is human and if you treat the interaction as such it’s likely it will all go great.
