Cushy Role to Samsara?

hey y'all!

Currently in a cushy role (low work hours) but hitting quota (aka making big $) is hit or miss.

Q1 and Q4 you make bannnnk, Q2+3 you are on the edge of PIP and famine... The Tech Sales is usual.

Got a job offer for Samsara Sr MM AE. Same OTE but remote.

Curious for those who have the inside scoop.

What's the selling life over there?

Is it worth taking the risk and leaving a cushy role in this environment?

Samsara is probably the biggest player in the space. Not sure how the territories are aligned and all that jazz but might be worth it

but is selling telematics/GPS even bullish anymore, seems saturated/boring af

Not so worried about bullish worry about stability. Samsara has to worry about advancing tech forward and new products. They will.

Can’t speak for Samsara but worked at their competitor Motive. The market is saturated since it’s mandated by the government to have electronic logs, so the money comes from extras, like dash cams, side cams, asset trackers, reefer monitors, etc.

Usually people make a move on price in this space. So if you can get them a better deal than their current provider, which is often since margins have lots of room, you can find a sale before they renew

While your current gig has great hours, I wouldn't call being close to PIP and/or famine for half the year 'cushy'. That's gotta be stressful and frustrating.

It's a solid name and the remote piece is a huge benefit. I'd seriously consider it. Don't underestimate the monetary value of your commuting time, transportation, and eating at home.

It is stressful but its known that our sales happen those Qs sho even tho you get annoying threats due to famine, it never becomes anything bc Q4/Q1 = blow off tops
I agree seriously considering it.
Been at current co 2.5yr dont wanna be seen as a job hopper IF i fail after taking the new role :/

I totally get that, but tbh 2.5 years is a pretty decent tenure these days. Unfortunately most companies have made moving the only way to significantly increase earnings, more so when it comes to base.

Have you had a history of bouncing around previous to this role?

2.5yr at current6mo at previous (hated it)2yr at previous previous
the base would remain the same but on Repvue reps are attaining 66% and at my Co they are attaining 25%
The gamble would be, gamble comfort and stability + tenure for the possibility of commissions and being remote + being at a recognizable tech Co

I wouldn't worry about that label then, you should be fine.

You need to weigh the pros and cons, but sounds like it would be a useful move to make, ESPECIALLY remote

Ever heard the phrase ‘the grass isn’t always greener on the other side’. I don’t like risk and have to keep steady income. But if you are willing to risk it, go for it. Good luck sir.

Set up sometime with some of their reps to get internal temperature check.
I have experienced the closed business to be on the lower side during Q2/Q3 due to various reasons. Not sure if this would be same with Samsara. All the best !!

Agree, you need to be able to keep the energy up solo, it isn't as easy as most think, I'm remote but we have a coworking space leased at any time and I usually hit it 1-2x a week.

Had 2 interviews for an AE MM role there. Both the recruiter and the sales manager seriously raved about the place. The recruiter said she's brought 2 family members to work for Samsara and she's been with the company 4+ years. sales mgr said he doesn’t see himself leaving, but he has been there since 2018 and experienced ($) the rise of the company. Seems like a great product and fun to sell because it both reduces damages and increases efficiency.

Little late to this post but used to sell telematics about 4 years ago against Samsara. They definitely have the best product (or at least they did at the time), and they were also the most expensive - their reps also got paid way more. I was the public sector guy so I won a lot up in Canada because I could play the local boy card and save them money.
Point is, in the space I think they're the most competitive - but I'm not sure how saturated that market is yet. That said, all those companies replace trucks and get new trucks so it's not like they're one-and-done deals. Good luck!
