From AE to inside sales role

My CRO just re-assign me from AE to an inside-sales role.

The reason given is because my numbers are lower and my background is business developement relevant. He wants me to help the other Salespersons to generate more prospecting activities.

The rest of the sales team are account managers. They are dealing with large enterprise account with ongoing requirements. I'm the only AE not assigned any account because I quote '' you are a hunter, you hunt.'' So every sales meeting, their closing stage deals will be half a mil or higher, while mine is the lowest among all.

I think it's unfair to judge me on the same KPI as them because I don't have the tools and accounts to achieve the numbers they all have. We moved away from Sales navigator because most of the team don't use them other than me. The reason given is '' doesn't justify the investment''

I'm totally dishearted and every day at work is killing me. Should I fight this or leave?

A few points. First be honest with yourself. Are you actually hunting enough? Are you leveraging these tools enough to justify them? Are you doing everything in your power to justify the role?

If so, don't fight a demotion. Too hard to change that perception of you. Do enough to justify your next role, but actively find a way out.

If the answer is no, take a moment and find what matters to you. Maybe you are happy doing enough, but not having the pressure.

I dont know you and I don't the situation. Only you can find your truth

I did a reflection of myself, I think my activities generate opportunities but not enough business.

I'm heading the sale of a technology which is relatively new in the region. I should have done marketing events or activities instead of outbound cold calls and LinkedIn messaging.  I did have some good opportunities but they are not enough to hit my quota.

Then time to move on. Just trying to be realistic in an industry that is not

You've effectively been given a demotion. Sounds like the writing is on the wall. Start job hunting immediately.

Ummm, there are “inside” AE roles too, in fact, that’s rapidly becoming the norm. I have multiple years making over $200K in those roles. Sounds like you’re being repositioned toward your strengths. If that doesn’t work for you, then leave, but maybe give it a shot if you can make some money.

Offer to bring him lunch everyday, and sprinkle some "organic sprouts" on every salad he orders.

Brush off the resume, create a narrative that you can believably tell people about why you are leaving, and move on.

I’d agree with the sentiment “time to look elsewhere”

You've got a target on your back at this point. Time to pack up and get out. It won't be good for your mental health to stay there.
