Stay a individual contributor for 7-10 years total, but eventually move to management when I'm too burnt out to deal with cold calling

I did 9 years in sales, moved to sales management for 3.5 and am back to sales as an individual contributor. Managing was eye opening. I’ll be an individual contributor for a while before thinking about managing again.

I'm torn on this... part of me wants the leadership role, the other part wants to only worry about my own book of business and enjoy the added freedom that comes with it.

Always wanted a leadership role, but I can see the desire to stay in an individual role. Just depends on the person and sales is great cuz you can make stupid money if you crush it in an individual role

pros and cons. I've done both and a bit torn around what to look for next. I think both are situational to the company/org.

Some first line managers are just there to collect forecasts, politic, and execute plays coming from above. If that's it I'd skip it.

likewise in some orgs the Enterprise/Strat IC roles can be a kiss of death as you have a huge quota and only a handful of accounts. so what you walk into may initially be out of your control

Went into corporate to get paid to learn sales from good sales people and get my hands on that secret Krabby Patty formula. Left it to go into biz for myself. No ragerts.

I don’t know anyone who would want to wear my companies logo for shits and gigs - customers and employees included. I feel like liquor, gift cards etc are the better play

I had a manager once tell me "You'll need to lose those morals if you want to be successful in sales"
