Does this kinda thing already exist or am I just brilliant?

All these startups and tech companies, do they ever just give SDRs/BDRs a trial period that's 100% commission with no expectation of activity metrics to meet or hours dedicated to prospecting efforts?

I just think if someone told me their commish structure up front, told me to go see how many meetings I could get them with their ideal customer profile and pay me based on that I could essentially do it in my spare time and after about 1-2 months decide if it's something I could successfully sell full time...

Any companies out there that do this? Anyone ever tried?

The company that assigns these SDRs most likely pays them a base, and their value prop is “don’t pay us a fee, pay us when we set you meetings”. Those kind of companies exist and they really beat the shit out of their talent. Great bootcamp, though.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
I have done "high level lead gen" for a couple large companies.  100% commission based on the amount of time I spent developing the lead, how good the lead was, etc.  I made $500-1000 per lead and delivered a couple per week.   I spent 4-5 hours per week doing this while maintaining another "40hr/week" job.  Eventually turned into a job offer by one of the companies I was doing lead gen for.  I knew it was never going to be a long term gig.

Dude, yes!  Is that what it's called?  "High level lead gen" ?  I'm looking to do exactly this, because as shitty of a closer as I am I can open like a MF'er.... thanks for sharing.

I basically opened my rolodex of contacts of high level (v-c-level) people and smile/dialed them up.  So it helps if you already have a bunch of contacts from a previous gig you can dial up.
AND I landed in it by accident.  I got into a conversation with a guy on LI and he offered me the gig as a result.  Dumb luck mostly.

I never did it but this doesn’t sound attractive anyways

When someone is job hunting they're not typically looking to add an additional 1-2 months to the hiring process.

I get what your thought is about giving the candidate an opportunity to "test drive" the role before making a decision as well as giving the employer some insight into skill level of said candidate. I just don't see a lot of people going for it because of timeline expectations.

What's the target market?   The BDRs with whom I work are Enterprise, and we have meetings with them to plan for accounts, etc.

Managing this kind of operation would be a nightmare. Sales comp is complex enough even for FTEs, and companies don't want un-vetted people representing them with customers.

It would be far less risky for them to ask candidates "ok, go find 4 people you think would be good customers and write 4 different outbound messages to them like you're selling our product, and send them to US in the next 20 mins"

I'd think it would be too long to test run 🤔

there's whole companies based around this model to outsource BDR efforts into a commission only role. Look up MemoryBlue or BAO. They're the 2 biggest that I know of. I've also done it as a side gig for real estate brokerages before. Just had them set me up in their phone system then they would pay me per client I got them

When someone is looking for a role no serious candidate is going to accept an offer with a shitty much less 0 base salary. So the company will only get bad candidates most likely

I disagree.  As long as they weren't trying to force me to work or care about how much effort I put in I would absolutely consider this.

Got news for you, they would care. They still have to pay for benefits and someone to manage you.

got news for you as well, if i'm a contractor then they don't have to pay me any benefits or pay anyone to manage me.

My word, in the original post you ask does anyone offer a trial period with strictly commission. That would infer that they are being hired. No BDR is incorporating themselves. There’s companies that offer the services you mention above, salesroads being one that comes to mind. They usually suck.

The upside for qualified meetings would have to be huge for me. You would need to be pretty retarded to do this with standard variables. I would want 800 a meeting minimum probably a grand. The candidate absorbs the bulk of the risk here so I would want to be compensated accordingly.

So... are there any lead gen companies out there? Is that the question?

So, most people I know did not plan on becoming a sales person initially, it just happened. So, curious to know how my fellow warriors here ended up in sales anyway ? The more interesting stories the better..!!
