Everyone is leaving

Tell me what you think.

I joined a new team in May, they are still figuring out the structure and how everything works.

Recently both my personal manager and his manager quit a few weeks ago and there's no structure and you are not held accountable to reach your targets.

On top of that 2 other AEs in my team just gave their 3 weeks notice.

Is this a sinking ship?

should I stick around or should I start looking for new opportunities?

It's easy to get sucked into the drama of it all. My advice? Keep your head down and continue to do your job as you ignore the distractions. I'd also start applying to other companies.

Iโ€™d go as high in the chain of command as possible and ask clearly why those people left. Let them know it concerns you and why. If that many people are leaving they will want any opportunity to talk through this with someone before they leave too. Itโ€™s a lot harder on them operationally to hire, retrain etc.

This happened at my company as well, we went from around 500 - 200 in a blink of an eye, now we are around 120. This can open the doors to climbing on the ladder if you are over preforming and the higher ups are leaving. If you have a change to go up, I'd stay, go for a promotion, stay there for a year and reevaluate if you leave you already have a year experience in a higher roll, if you stay you can keep growing.

Now this is my plan but I know my company is going not sinking, just changing drastically. If so, many people are leaving, ask then why, the why makes all the difference, but you have to act fast if the boat is indeed sinking.

As@CuriousFoxsaid keep your head down and focus on your metrics.ย

Worth sharpening up your CV and putting some feelers out.ย

Would definitely recommend getting the most senior persons take that you can book time in with.ย

It does sound concerning, but I can confirm people quitting isn't always a sign of a sinking ship, ย  ย  In this year my companiesโ€™ sales team has dropped from 9 people to 5, some retired, some quit, but the company is still going strong, still a lot of good people here, budgets in an ok place considering everything going on in the world. ย  ย  ย  ย  If you have access to your companies financials, this is usually your best indicator of if you're riding the Titanic or the Nautilus

It's very difficult to tell if it's a bad sign just because a few employees have served their notice. Have they joined recently or its been quite sometime because sometimes new employees get demotivated / lose interest etc if they don't find the right structure and culture as promised.

Also, what about the ARR/Customer base/Churn Rate and P&L statement. Are they going upward? If yes, it could be the right time to take an ownership and start strategizing things and for that you need to speak to your higher management in black and white (what you feel, why you are concerned, how you think this situation can be handled and improved etc.)

seems a little suspect, perhaps try to find out any underlying reasons for the departures you are not aware of? Its always good to be open to new opportunities anyway, so take a look see whats around. Failing that if you stick it out and they make a fair offer you may be able to snag a quick promo if you play your cards right.

How big is this company? If you are Series C and less than 300 people - yeah, this is incredibly large danger sign.ย

If this is the case and people were there for more than 2 years, could just be tenured people moving on. But keep your eye out for any additional warning signs like pipeline drying up, could be a fire sale.ย

I went through something similar earlier this year, had a team of 9 AEโ€™s and 8 quit (including me) as well as our manager. But that was also just a poor situation. Everyone quitting like that probably isnโ€™t a great sign, but ever situation is different

This happened at my company at the beginning of our fiscal year in Feb. 80% turnover and Iโ€™m the last one in my region that has been here for awhile. Attrition is good in my opinion so long as itโ€™s not because the leadership or product suck. The attrition my company saw has opened doors and promotions for me that I wasnโ€™t expecting until next year. So, do you like the product? Can you sell it well? Do you like your CRO?

Honestly i would look at this as a challange and see what i could do. You have the ability to figure it out yourself, use what you did before and inprove it. No boss nagging you to update salesforce or move their meetings 13 times and holding yourself accountable to hit your goals without the push from anyone else will Make you better

Just talk to the people leaving. Ask them why. Then go to the C levels and talk to them. If you feel they have no clue, leave.ย

Definitely seems suspect. A few good ideas on here. Definitely work your connections and find out more.

This is an awesome time to make moves up even if you are not over performing. Grab the best territories and accounts, comb through the CRM and find late stage deals in the empty patches you can close.

Hard to say without more context, like can you explain a bit more of the dynamics right now? Is there a poor work environment, or is management really bad? Anything helps.

Agreed. Sounds like the only decision to be made is if you want to talk to the recruiter, or not.

Previous company is losing salespeople left and right, think I made a great decision leaving. Anyone else have a similar experience?
