How to ask for a package

My company just had another round of layoffs. I wasn't entirely confident I would survive, but I did. I also already landed a new job. The layoffs happened about a week ago. I know others at my company were successful last round in doing this, but how do I ask for a layoff package?

Book sometime in HRs calendar (not your managers) and ask for private, confidential conversation. Ask them about getting a severance package but don’t tell them you already have another job.
