How to remain calm when being fucked over

Looking for some advice: When your company, manager or colleague knowingly fucks you over, how do you not completely flip your shit?

it goes without saying: Put your energy towards finding a new opportunity. I get that.

But, in the moment, how do you talk yourself off the ledge from rage quitting long enough to find a different employer?

Uh, asking for a friend… 👀

So. Frustrating.

Plot your revenge, visualize how you’d burn the place down, savor the thought…and then use that energy to seek out new employment while you keep that fire to yourself. The best revenge will be your success - elsewhere. Especially if you land at a competitor and can burn then by winning opportunities from them.

Other than that, sorry. :(

A favorite quote of mine (from a fantasy novel, "The Warded Man") comes to mind:
I am the palm and this is only wind. I will bend, but I will not break.

I don’t cope with this kind of shit really well. I usually turn to some sort of self-aggrandizing anger and mentally destroy the offender for about 3 weeks. All of this head noise while the bastard has no idea I’m even pissed.

Clearly I need therapy.
Don’t let it happen to you, too.
Breathe. It ain’t worth it.

I’m the same way. Run through these wild revenge fantasies, win fake arguments in my head, yeah that’ll show em…

Step away from the keyboard. Go outside. Lose your shit. Rage. Get it out. Then go back to what you were doing 😎

Thank you.

I know all this and have given this advice but it just doesn’t register in the heat of the moment.

Sometimes you just need a little empathy to get you through.

We've got your back, brother. I instantly start thinking of "little people" running around kicking people in the shins, then proceeding to laugh and run away. Gets me EVERY TIME!

Advice is easy to give but hard to follow when you're right in the middle of it.

It sucks when this happens. Unfortunately, most people in the world aren’t thinking about how their actions affect others finances, family, well-being, etc.

Be the meek one and just know there are people that are out there in your next opportunity that won’t do that to you. Coming from a guy that is having the same thing happen.

It’s not worth it Cadence.

Are you still in a ramp?

Unless you truly can no longer bear it or until you’ve found a job offer, keep collecting the paycheck try to not let it seep into other aspects of your life.

Easier said than done, I know.

I’m sorry you are going through this, it’s an awful feeling. You’ll find something better in due time.

Life is hard, so buckle up. Are you sure the company is at fault... or is it your manager? If the latter, go over their head.

I guess find other meaningful things in your life. I work and it enables me do what I want outside work... So that helps to deal with most things at work without getting too pissed at what is happening. Quitting helps but I think now a lot of companies are struggling

This is really really hard and I wish I could go back to my younger self to give youngertitle this same advice. Reacting and blowing up achieves nothing and in fact 30 minutes after you blow up you feel guilty and wish you would have handled it differently. I never rage quit but I did change companies due to boiled up frustrations, which was not a mistake but I could have handled it better.

What comes around goes around, and they shall reap what they shall sow. Perhaps, a time comes where roles will be reversed, and you take the high road and let others see. Or, throw that BS to the wind, and perhaps a weird accident should befall them, heaven forbid. Just don't let others see in that case. Such a dichotomy of wisdom!
