Never limit yourself. Apply to roles up and down the spectrum.

And if you are targeting a very specific role, what extra are you bringing them besides just another smiling face?

I sold mid-market and occasional enterprise at my last job. Got laid off and took the first offer I got selling fintech to sole proprietorships and micro businesses. Didn't want to take the job, but it's a good thing I did because I'd still be unemployed if I hadn't.

I still apply, I still reach out to people on LinkedIn to try to network, but it's a rough job market. I haven't been on an interview in over a month. I'm reaching the point of giving up hope and just accepting that I might be here a while.

Took me a year after the dotcom crash to find another job, and then that job was the worst place I'd ever worked. However, through that job, I met a colleague who thought of me when the tech company he went to work for needed to hire. I got that job, never looked back.

It took far longer than I thought, there was definitely despair, but there's something to be said for networking and not losing hope. Persevere, keep trying, and refine your resume and interview pitch as you go.

I would encourage you to keep trying.

I am seeing constant motion. One of the weird things is itโ€™s extremely siloed for booms and busts. Martech and addtech might be getting hit hard, but FinTech lending is booming. Crazy times.

Job market is still a challenge, but persevere.

When you mention lowering expectations, what do you mean?

Are you interested in those roles at all? By which I mean, if one of those roles is open at a company youโ€™re interested in, could be that foot in the door to work up. Not sure Iโ€™d look to settle otherwise.

Yup. That's what I am thinking. I will try to find an org I want to work for and then get the role I can get today.

Don't worry about inventory--it's out there--worry about how well prepared you are to fight for roles against those that are likely more prepared and better connected than you.

I wouldn't limit yourself to anything. If you think you're up to a job, throw your hat in the ring. Unlike dating, it really is true that the worst they can say is "no."

This ups and downs would always exist but that doesnโ€™t mean the people are not getting offers. I wouldnโ€™t compromise or limit myself unless in a dire need of something.

It depends upon the market you're currently looking for a job. To be honest at this moment US market is dicey due to the debt trap(Recession)and the Europe market is also not so good. You can target mid-market roles which are essential to the companies at this moment to survive the projects. Right now most of the companies are doing layoffs it can further more in the coming weeks. As an AE you're always needed for the organization to get new business and maintain relationships with existing clients.
