Meme's for Rapport Building

anyone ever use meme's to build rapport with prospects/champions? This is a real email interaction from this week and it made me think maybe this would be appreciated by other similar prospects...

Is it appropriate to use meme's for driving deals forward?

If the client sends one first, or if you have built a relationship that you feel you can send a quick customized meme that they would appreciate, why not?

I agree with Fox per usual. Keep it on their level.

Agree with Fox - If the client makes the first move I'm down for it. I love humor, but not memes at all - especially because it can take away some credibility and some older clients don't really get the context of the meme - it can be misleading or missinterpreted. I love making my prospects laugh. I feel like some sort of unspoken tension is removed after the first giggle. I try to read the client and make my research in order to hit the jackpot with the right joke. One of my SDRs used to close his Friday calls with "try to don't get arrested" - Every single client would crack there - so yeah... not a big fan of memes unless the client is open for that.

Ok thatโ€™s fuckin hilarious. โ€œTry to donโ€™t get arrestedโ€ is being added to the repertoire.

Sometimes the first move comes from me.Whenever deemed appropriate humor to overcome expectations is when you feel the conversation cst to their goals

It's generational I think, but mostly as @CuriousFoxย mentioned, the customer needs to enable you to use that kind of thing. I wouldn't just send one without gaging my customer's potential reaction yet. I myself would be ok with it (I'm 43), but I know a ton of people my age and higher that frown on memes.ย

I tend to know a lot about my prospects before I interact with them (as in, whether they would like memes or not), so I 100% will send them if I know it will be received well. Some will never be receptive, and thatโ€™s okay. Just know your audience.

Never would lead with it, but as fox says, if they send it first for sure

Generational for sure, and depends on where you're at with the prospect. I have a couple younger prospects that I text with and we share memes related to the process, its quite entertaining and a nice break from the "professionalism only" vibes.ย

1. ย You don't need to use that apostrophe
2. ย Sure, whatever floats your boat. ย I personally wouldn't do it unless I was texting with a client and had a strong relationship
3. ย Be a scientist in sales and not an artist. ย A/B test this shit and come up with your own data.

Have an awesome day.

If a prospect ghosts you - you should send them a bitmoji.ย

Personally, I use memes. I haven't been getting any responses from one of my big prospects, and I sent him a meme, then which he finally responded. Lolย

Just do what feels natural and right. I am a jokester, so I will incorporate funny jokes or comments!ย

Also, know your client. When I send my memes its usually a desperation thing to grab their attention lol. If your client is rather brash and harsh I would maybe suggest no.ย

If it's a completely cold call and you're getting nowhere, give it a shot! I'd look up the prospect first and make they aren't some boomer who's going to be offended. It's a read the room kind of thing for me

I only send memes internally to joke with other sales reps. Seems unprofessional to me to send to a prospect. Maybe a customer you have known awhile would be okay if you have a good relationship but to new logo or prospects...I would argue its very risky

I send youtube videos to folks, sometimes songs, sometimes 'gene parmesan'. Depends on the scenario and the personality of the person you're dealing with

Better be a really good meme. God forbid you get hit with a minions meme from 2008. I typically will send relevant articles and case studies if the conversation goes dark.
