Moving away from Mortgages.

New user here. I'm a loan officer currently and I'm looking to make a change. I'm not afraid of learning new products, I just have no clue what's out there. I love selling, just need ideas on what industry will take a college drop out with zero industry specific experience. 8 years selling cars and mortgages. Thanks.

Virtually every company employs a sales team - what do you want to sell?

Some common industries to look at:

- Software
- Software as a Service (SaaS)
- Security
- Advertising/lead gen
- Insurance
- Hard goods (cars, office equipment, manufacturing, all kinds of shit here.)

Some industries have a lower barrier to entry than others. Software is hot, but most companies will want you to start off in a more junior SDR/BDR role before they allow you to work on closing accounts. Security is also lucrative, but may require a higher level of understanding (including a degree.) To sell insurance, you need to be licensed.

Your choice should also depend on what city you live in and how much money you need to make.

When you say security, do you mean security services? Like mall cops? Or more in the software security lane? Or something else?

lmao @ mall cops, bless your heart.

No...security as in IT security.

Have you considered selling traffic to mortgage companies from landing pages you set up or spending some money on Google ads/facebook campaigns? You know the mortgage business well so it shouldn't be too hard

What products does your current company use? Any relationship with vendors there? Could be an in.

I dig that. We work with a number of different vendors for credit, lead gen, etc. Good idea.

Thanks! I think starting close to home is always the easiest play. Good luck!

Any SaaS offering. You might do well in a company like BetterDOTcom which is a SaaS mortgage company

I want to get out of that industry and move into either tech, HR, insurance or anything in those veins. I’m really open to a lot. I like learning about new products. I’m so open that it’s actually hurting the process.

Try to narrow your options from long term perspective. The more you are streamlined, less will be the confusion

Well that’s good news. I really don’t know just how much of an impact my lack of degree is going to have.

With 8 years of experience no one will care about degree. Assuming you're good at what you do and have a good resume.

You’ll make the most money in financial services, and you probably already understand the basic concepts.
