I just started at my new company <insert happy dance here> and they gave me this giant ass office with a huge desk and a million file cabinets. As a New Yorker, I don’t know what to do with all this space. There are still nails in the wall from the previous occupant, so I’m assuming people decorate these things.

Why? And what’s your set up like?

I love having plants (could always do fake ones if you don't want to tend to them or don't have a lot of light.) Personal photos, framed wall art, a rug, a desk lamp, a few cute knick knacks to stare at/play with while you're on a boring call, and a drawer full of snacks.

Edit: Also items I find useful to have around: a small manicure kit with clippers/file for emergencies, stain remover pen, Tylenol, Chapstick, lint roller, hand lotion, salt and pepper, glasses cleaner, extra pair of glasses, feminine products, a little sprayer of perfume. I know some people will keep a spare outfit as well, I haven't found the need because I live close by but if you don't it could be a good idea.

I also have an essential oil diffuser.

@funcoupons I'm starting to think we're the same person. I'd also add a charger, I use a cup holder that has a charging stand on it that I got from Target. Game changerrrrr!

I've seen people put up art, bring in custom rugs, photos and plants, etc.

Personally I'd keep it minimal and clean. If you ever need a quick exit you can leave with all your shit in one box and never look back.

This is what I always think. Why would you leave shit in an office? What if you need something while working from
home?

I’ve always worked while mobile. Hell, I used to run my whole business from a cell phone.

I have plants, photos and 2 calendars on my desk along with a map of states/time zones for calling and scheduling purposes.

One calendar is a cat shaming calendar which I know you'd love, and the other one is a monthly view where I mark important dates down.

If you have walls, I would put up some art - I don't like plain white walls.

Plants are huge for me, brighten up a space. Also pictures of loved ones/cards/notes/sentimental items.

My office has frames on the wall that still have the stock photos in them, and I've been in this space for 8 months... haha. I can't bring myself to care about office decor for some reason.

We used to have a shed as a meeting room in our office in central London. Everyone thought it would be cool and V 'Tech start-up'. it was the hottest, least ventilated and least soundproofed meeting room you can imagine.

I love having a plant on my desk I find it very calming and pleasing to look at, get one you can't kill easily if you are not great with plants like me. I also like to have something to hold my essential stuff like notebooks and pens. Congrats on the new company!
