Post Meeting Follow-Up

Howdy, y'all!

For my B2B, customer-facing folks. A few questions for you to frame up a deeper post:

1) Do you have a formal follow-up template?
2) What meetings do you send follow-ups after?
3) When do you send follow-ups? (Time based)

Thank you kindly.

(1) No real template - depends on the meeting.
(2) Most, especially if there are several action items or if anything needs to be clarified.
(3) Within 24 hours, preferably same day if the meeting is in the AM, by noon the next day if the meeting was in the PM.

Get an in person meeting on the books.
Follow ups aren't templates, personalize them. It takes longer - but it's a decent chance of a win.

What if a template is a guide for personalized content, but ensures you actually hit all the important points?

Absolutely you should hit all recap points and momentum statements. But forms read like forms.

A template is an organizational tool for formatting, not a form. I think that’s the difference between good sales enablement and micromanagement.

I have a template mostly for the next steps outlined at the bottom. Try to send same business day, if its a light day, right after the call.

I always send recap emails the same day. Template ish - one line saying thanks for the meeting, here's a recap. Then I list their company with 2 actionable bullet points. Then my company with 3 to 4 actionable bullet points. Then last line saying I'm following the email with a calendar invite to discuss our progress.

not a fan of templates because it can take away from the uniqueness each meeting holds, I guess it's my add that kicks in there...
After a discovery I try to book a next step of demo/install and include bullets from our meeting to make sure that if they have to go present to anyone they can be briefed and they may have questions to jump on the next call which is usually a good thing.
I try to make sure the follow-up goes out same day if its not too late but if it is an evening call I throw 20 minutes on the calendar for the next day to bang out a follow-up email.
All said and done it's pretty painless to do and ha some solid results, usually....

1. Don't have a standard follow template as such but many follow the same format.
2. I'll follow up every single meeting recapping next steps, I will also follow up even it's it's just a thank you message if there were no next steps.
3. For bigger meetings where there's some big decisions been made or large quotes to share, I'll get it to them within a few hours if possible to get it front of them while it's still fresh. Otherwise for less major stuff, within a day generally. That said, the majority of my meetings are F2F with a significant amount of travel so it can get pushed out a bit depending on how rough my schedule is.
