Pros and Cons

Hey everyone! I'd like to hear your pros and cons on working/selling for a publicly traded company vs a company held by a private equity firm (Vista to be exact).

Public companies typically have ESPPs. Private ones don't.

Public is numbers, numbers, numbers. You’ll face more pressure, but also a lot more structure and leadership. At super big companies you will feel like a number too

public companies have a strong focus on quarterly results. PE mostly wants to show extreme growth tout court. They also focus more on the share of wallet kind of metrics.

Oh boy
I work at a huge multinational public company. The amount of training & sales resources available to me are impressive. Also I have some stock so that's nice.
However, Career progression is subject to a lot of numbers and checkmarks and doesn't recognize soft skills or context as well as a smaller private company would. Also, because it's so huge, there's lots of communication breakdowns and internal selling that has to happen before anything external will occur.
Oh, and there's lots of corpo-speak. Gotta beat the company's drum to their chosen rhythm, know what I'm saying?

Oh boy
I should add -- I ended up in the multinational because my smaller, VC-backed startup was acquired. I can confidently say that been on both sides of the fences.
