Role is being eliminated...

well this sucks... I just got back from paternity leave and got pulled into my VPs office. I guess they made the decision to restructure our sales department and are getting rid of my position entirely.

So basically I have an option of just getting "laid-off without severance" OR take a hybrid role of sales support/enterprise bdr. There is no additional room to move into an elevated AE role at this time

They are shifting away from small business to focus primarily on strategic and enterprise targets..

I am pretty pissed off as I was having a good year so far only to get this kind of news AFTER a life changing family event. I think I'm just going to make the transition and then aggressively look for a new role.

Sorry for the soapbox. I just don't get it. What would you all do?

That sucks but it happens.

My advice - take the role they are offering and start looking for your next gig. Much easier to get a job when you have a job than when you donโ€™t. And being employed is better than being unemployed.

1.) I feel for you. I can 100% relate.

2.) they offered to keep you employed and you can take the role and look for something else. LinkedIn never needs to know.

3.) companies are coming back into hiring right now. Iโ€™ve gotten several DMs the last 1.5 weeks so itโ€™s ok to look now.

Sorry bud thatโ€™s rough. I canโ€™t remember who it was that gave me the advice โ€œdo whatโ€™s best for your family, not your prideโ€ but I believe it fits here

Stay employed and job hunt. Damn dude I feel for you. Are they decreasing your salary if you stay?

They are keeping my base the same, but what I was making bank on was the override on my book as well as what I was selling. So really, my salary is decreasing overall

Man, I'm so sorry to hear this. I got laid off from a job a matter of weeks before my first was born. Absolutely crushing.

At the very least, you have the option to maintain a paycheck, even if it's not the ideal position. I think you're plan here is the absolute best thing you can do.

Oh no, that's bad. The advice to keep the job offered and look elsewhere gets my vote as well.

If it helps: Bought my first house, while pregnant with my first child. Child due in August, dotcom crash going on, I was one of 2 remaining employees on the West Coast. Called by manager, they're letting me go as part of a wind-down layoff. Then they started to offer weird things, as this happened on a Wednesday - told me it was effective as of Monday, but they'd pay me the week at a half rate so that I could be covered by maternity leave and benefits. They meant well, but that wasn't going to fly (and was probably illegal); that reduction would affect my PTO cash out amount. So, I worked out a deal where I effectively went on leave "early" (before the birth) and then had the 6 weeks after. During that time, 9/11 happened. Part of the effect of that event for laid off workers was extended benefits, but it was much, much harder to find another job. It did work out, however, and I ended up in a much better place. Moral of the story: persevere, I know you have a great work ethic, you will absolutely find something much better. It totally sucks that a wonderful life event has anything negative associated with it, but I'm positive you'll come out all the better for this hurdle.

Sorry to hear that man. Like others I would stick it out with whatever they are offering making sure I move out soon when something promising comes my way. Loads of luck ๐Ÿ€

Sorry to hear this man. Similar to what others have said, keep the job offered and look elsewhere while you still get some pay incoming

How they have it laid out is that I would be handling all of the cases in the open territories as well as closing all of the one-off deals that come through, plus doing whatever to wipe the ass of the enterprise AE and whatever they need from me.
