I might be a lone on this but I kind of like it. Its a Win-Win-Win
1. Employees are helping a cause at no cost to them, outside of commute time
2. SFDC gets a tax deduction
3 Charities get $2.5 mil in funding
Employees can still be remote and this is a lot better than forcing them to return to the office. Sure there is going to be virtual signaling for a lot of employees, but seems like a net positive to me

You're better than me there. I almost never assume that in the business world.

SFDC is offering $10 to a charity of the employees choice each time an employee goes in the office

Hmm, I don’t mind it.

The fine print is that it’s only from June 12-23. Equates out to $100 per person if they return for all 10 business days.
I wonder what the catch is?!? 🤔
Perhaps the days you come in during that stretch are now the days you are required to be in the office.

They don't even have enough desks for employees.

If it means $100 toward a good cause I’d take the chance.

But would you keep going after that 2 week window?

Maybe depends on the requirement. You’re putting the cart before the horse though. You have no idea what will be asked afterward, if you don’t want to go in then don’t, if you do you’ll be rewarded with a donation. Go make a little money for a good cause and worry about what comes next later

Actually, they have dedicated a pool of money and will DEDUCT from it for each day an employee does not come in.
Much more sinister way of doing this.
Basically, guilt-tripping, rather than rewarding.
If you don't show up, YOU are the one taking the money out of the pile. Rather than the man putting it in there because you showed up.

I have seen mixed reports on if they are taking from the pool and donating with a limit of x amount.
However I feel like everything about wfh or rto is a guilt trap.

Fair enough, I could have been reading fake news.
Either way, it is a both genius and sinister approach to motivating employees.

Okay that’s a good way to look at it for sure.
I do feel bad for the people that aren’t near an office though…I could see it causing unintentional guilt for them.
I heard rumblings too that majority of new hire roles are no longer being offered to work remotely.
Hopefully it’s fake news and the internal announcement had some supportive language.

. If the office is not need, then being based in the most expensive city in the USA to do business in makes no sense. It’ll just accelerate the death spiral of SF. He realizes this, and is trying to stop it from happening

Got to think Marc has good intentions behind this, but I can see how some employees may see this as a guilt trip.

RTO is much like the layoffs and copycat culture. It's also a way to cut headcount without doing a layoff.

I guess if you're going to do it this is the way... But I'm not a fan. Remote for life.
