I guess the definition is different depending on the role?

Yea I don't think that fits with 'closing experience' on a JD, but there's always some kind of closing.

They are winning if they get the meeting. Not sure I think of it as closing, but ok.

Definitely more accurate verbiage, but I'm trying to throw SDRs a bone here :)

a signed contract is a combination of MANY "yes's". Every yes is like a closed deal in on its self.
getting the YES to have a first meeting is a HUGE one. and maybe the hardest one to get.
but i would not say that being good at getting a YES to a first meeting means you have experience "closing" deals.

It's still a form of closing, but yeah, not deal closing. Although, I used this logic to go from a BDR role to an AE role somewhere else and doubled my salary.

All sales roles have some type of closing, but it can be very different on how you define closing

This is exactly what I tell them as well. It’s a closing role. And getting to no is also succes. Their job is to get an answer

Meeting or not interested (with the reason behind it) is a win. The information gained might be used later on.

A "no" is a solid response. Sales is a numbers game at the end of the day. Eliminating a loser puts you one step closer to winning.

Its closing, but maybe a different type. But I too don't like seeing SDRs complain about "wanting a closing role".
