Should an AE and an SDR reach out to the same prospect in outbound?

Or should they try to avoid that?
if they do reach out to the same - I imagine the messaging should be similar but not the exact same text?

You are doubling dipping to get a first meeting? As a prospect I’d mark you as spam if I saw two names asking the same thing. Feels like you’re not coordinated on your end.

Probably not same contact at same time. However same account is fine. Or, same contact but different message and spread out.

I usually target VP and C level, and have my SDR do everyone else

This is how I've split outbound outreach as well, in enterprise sales.

Let's take a step back. What's the intention behind both of them reaching out to the same prospect?

Well - both are prospecting to get first meetings in this case. Cold outbound of target accounts

ah! And I'm assuming your TAM ain't that big that both the SDR and AE can afford to have their own separate accounts?

They potentially could but it's not as massive a TAM as I'd like really

reaching out to the same account should be a collab and not a v/s. else, split the accounts. my 2 cents

As long as they are both not blowing up the prospect, it would make sense.
Similar how I ask my manager to message my top contacts, people might respond to a different name or title

Do you have a limited number of accounts to call into? If so, then working together on messaging to relevant contacts makes sense. And it will make sense to have both connect with the target at different times.
If you have a lot of accounts, it would be best to minimize any overlap so your overall reach is greater.

AE
At the same time, hell no. The prospect will most likely just be annoyed if two people from the same company are reaching out at the same time. However, if an SDR reaches out and gets no reply, it's fair for the AE to reach out again. I would give it a 30 days break between both outreachs though.

i would never have two ppl reach out to one prospect at the same time.

they could both reach out to the same ACCOUNT but not the same person.

I would agree and I'm leaning towards separate accounts ultimately. I wouldn't mind same account but not sure how the SDR can make sure to avoid who I am reaching out to easily. You can see once you're in Salesloft if they're in cadence but that's after they've researched and found the people only to realize they can't reach out to them

I am missing why they can't reach out to them - why is that?

2 people reaching to same contact? I think the assumption here is that it comes of as spammy

Generally avoid. But in the past (as both an SDR and an AE) I've done tag teams on specific high value accounts. We just didn't reach out to the same exact person at the same exact time. You have to have some kind of strategy in play.

Yes, but not like at the same call !
I recommend that only if a follow up is required or even when the prospect asked for someone more techy when it comes to PK and the SDR o the AE doesn't have the full answer!

not the same contact unless its strategic and like the last step of a cadence where an AE reaches out as a last attempt. To the same target company, hell yeah.

I mean, you can do what you want, but you run the risk of pissing off/badgering the prospect.

It can work, but they might confuse the two of you. That's how my experiences have gone when I've done it.
