SOS: Negotiating in a Remote World

In this not-so-new normal world, how will our benefits and negotiation tactics change for new jobs? Unlimited PTO, Remote working (no more commuter benefits? at home office set up vs WeWork), etc

I've been made an offer with a SaaS company I'm VERY excited about. The CEO himself recruited me and I know this is going to be an excellent launching pad for my career. But I need help with negotiating...

Role: Customer Success Manager (I'd be one of 2-3 ppl on the team).

Salary: Same base + OTE as my previous role in a marketing position

(OTE wasn't broken down so I asked for more details on that)

Location: Remote, *They're based in SF, I'm in Chicago (I asked for a home office set up or WeWork, they said it shouldn't be a problem but the info wasn't included in the offer)

PTO: Unlimited (so...there goes everyone's favorite negotiation point)

Options: 5k (over time of course)

Insurance Benefits: Starts day 1, really good coverage

401K: TBD

Etc: Already was asked to help put on a customer event (planning on using that as part of the salary negotiation)

... any and all advice welcome for negotiating this remote life.

Thanks in advance,

President Skroob

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
-Get the home office set-up in the offer letter.
-What the F does TBD mean on 401k?
-Options at what strike price? How does that compare to current valuation? Are they public?
-OTE being the same as your marketing role isn't really helpful without context.

Also, unlimited PTO is a scam that only benefits the company.

I’ve changed my mind on this. It’s a learned skill and on you to learn it. I’ve taken 15 days off so far this year. Don’t let them take advantage of you and you’ll be fine.

Fair point but often people skimp vacations since they view it as an infinite resource.

The other good thing about "earning" PTO is you get paid for unused hours when you leave. I just resigned my job last week and got 5-figure check for my unused PTO.

Oh yeah, the payout on unused PTO is always nice.

I agree with @CaneWolf - it's only a scam to those who let it be. I take my vacation loud and proud, at least 4 weeks a year if not 6. I do agree though, the shitty thing is not getting paid out at all if you didn't use it up.

Even more of a reason to use it liberally.

Totally agree with @CaneWolf that it can be used well. I'm definitely the kind of person who isn't afraid to use it you know?
But also --- agreed it sucks that we don't get paid out after accrual.

Thank you! Sooo. Got the home office bit, they're setting me up this week.

the TBD on 401k was that I was waiting to hear about whether they match or not. They do offer 401k, but not a match.
Didn't want to go too deep into my previous role since it was made up.

*crazy late response* but yeah... they created a role with a title that said one thing, but definitely described another. glad i left it!

I would get more specifics on ote, 401k, …

get everything you agree upon in writing both for your and their sake.
