Take a pay cut for SFDC?

hey--currently in payroll, in a cushy spot but kinda hate payroll lol. I'm making 80-85k base with an OTE at 120k. lots of deals depend on shitty partners. got an offer from salesforce smb with a low base at 70k but ote at 140k. should I jump? obviously countered but they won't be able to match because their higher market segment makes that. how valuable is that stamp on a resume for a long term saas career?

I've never worked for Salesforce. The system is done. They're a multi-billion dollar company. Any scrappy start up hiring manager will feel the same way. If you have success there, they'll attribute it to Salesforce market penetration and not your skills. I wouldn't jump.

I think I read that 65% of all smb salesforce reps miss their quota, and this was coming from a former salesforce employee. So hell no to that!

Eh… that's when you’re not in that 35%. I don’t know about anyone else, and maybe it’s positive thinking on my part, but if I jump ship for any company, I’m asking about multipliers and not quotas.
Either way - what’s your gut say? Someone said earlier something about knowing your current trajectory. I agree with that - depending on your present happiness factor, do you think SFDC would be a better situation for you?
It's all about a better life, my friend. Good luck with the decision; all that matters is that you crush no matter your journey.

There are lot of other unicorn that will pay you well. If I were you, I would look for something else because for me doesn't make sense to lower my market value and then have a learning curve in the new org when I will have no opportunity to make more money.

Depends on the growth path of your current situation. I get recruited by Salesforce all the time but I think my ceiling is higher where I am at now and I see a more clear growth path so personally I pass on it. I also had a friend that worked at SF and left after a short-ish stint. Grass ain't always greener with the big names.

Ah man…I’m a bit of a career changer and this been my only real saas offer thus far so I’m wondering if I keep waiting for break or take it

Fair enough, to be honest I skipped the part where you said you hate payroll lol, don't blame you. At the end of the day, SF is solid and you will get good experience there but there are thousands of SaaS companies that you can dip your toe in (some that will have better comp structures). Do a bit of research on some top ones in your area and if you arent impressed, take a call with SF.

Can tell you from experience that SFDC is cutthroat. They will blab on about how great the culture is all day, but have no problem working you into the ground and you’re stuck working for massive egos that will throw you to the wolves. Most managers couldn’t care less if you’re successful, unless it helps them meet weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual targets. Great benefits, some decent training, the logo can be helpful on the CV, but not worth the drain on your mental health in my opinion. Can’t tell you how many reps I’ve seen there take short term disability for mental health reasons…it’s not a coincidence.

Don’t expect to hit OTE at SFDC. Have a co-worker who came from there...literally one person on his team hit quota last year. Your territory will be tiny and they will work you into the ground. Good name on the resume though if you want to work for large-ish companies moving forward.

Salesforce has become such a massive company that everything is so micro-managed now. I work with SF reps quite a bit and lots of them miss quota, it seems like their ability to sell various products changes often, and it’s tough to truly grow there. Especially since you would be taking a $10K cut to your base, I really don’t think I would do that

I would say it's worth it, especially because OTE is higher than your current OTE anyway. Plus if you get any opportunities to move in within SFDC then you'll be making bank in no time.

I believe the OTE is realistic for SFDC and there’s so many routes you can go there. I have 2 friends at SFDC and they both love it there. Are you comfortable with being a small fish in a gigantic pond because that’s what you will be as an employee at SFDC. If yes sign yesterday if no keep looking

Wow. I guess. Not. Haha.
I have 2 years of legit experience at the biggest payroll machine. I can actually see the region I’m in crumbling before my eyes. All the tenured folk leaving—mainly for other payroll companies. I’m a sick of payroll. Before my 2 years here I worked at aerospace startups doing sales but also everything else. Jack of all trades. I’m in my mid 30s now in SoCal. There ya go. Where should I be looking? Trying for mongo, okta, and datadog.

What specifically about payroll do you not like? Forgive my ignorance as I’m sure it’s obvious to anyone who’s worked it but I’m not familiar with the space.

It’s a boring product, oversaturated market, prospects get called on by 10 different companies weekly, implementation fails for various reasons(no matter the company)…and you have to work with HR. Haha.

Oh...my suggestion was going to be HR tech until I read the last comment haha. I’m not a fan of selling to HR either. I suppose the one thing with SFDC is they rely on System Integrators for implementation so you wouldn’t have to deal with customers blaming your company for the failed implementation.
