Took a new role, it's a bust

So I left a steady AE role at an established Fortune 500 SaaS company to take on a Director of New Business role for a services business that recently launched a software business ..

Long story short, they screwed me. Leadership doesn't care about this aspect of the business and I'm basically just a BDR/Sales Ops person now and am not even able to sell.

Time to jump ship? I feel odd leaving after only a few months but I just can't sit idle making no money and not using my talents

This isn't really a real question is it? Get your job back. Say you're sorry. Eat the necessary crow.

Say it with me: I made a mistake. Can i come back?

You said it yourself, you can't do nothing. Use that spare time to start looking for the next hop and when they ask tell them they aren't utilizing you and when you talk to the org about utilizing your skills they have no interest.

You're chomping at the bit to go make an org some deals, a smart org will grab you as soon as possible and laugh at your misuse by the last company.

GTFO broski...they sound dishonest at best, and utterly stupid at worst. Wipe it from your Linkedin and quit on the day you get paid...

"I joined this company with excitement about ramping up this new division. However, there is a clear mismatch between the expectations communicated before I started and actually in the role. I am eager to sell and want to make money"

Append@oldcloser's quote for your old company, if you don't ask the answer will always be no.

Yup. Look on the down low while you bank more time having this title so you can apply for real jobs with this title.

Time to start your paid job search.

This is why if I'm ever approached again by a start up company for a position, I'm going to ask for written employment contract.

Would recommend you to re-network again with your ex employer if you have a chance to rejoin!

Start putting out feelers and apply to positions you like. Itโ€™s an easy story to tell. Most wonโ€™t hold it against you as there are always stories like this.

Apologies if off topic, but I am starting to see a few roles titled 'New Business' across some early-stage startups. Is this another term for SDR?

I hope you can re-join your F500. By the way, services companies do *not* understand software at all. They screwed you. As a pure-play SaaS / software person for years, I would never, ever join a services / consulting company.
