Veteran Words of Wisdom for Newbies

We all have been there - when we were new at a job, the veterans would always have some sort of words of "Wisdom" they would share. The cycle continues through us.

Share with us what internal knowledge you bestowed or was bestowed onto you. Even if it's from the grumpy old guy Al that thinks people taking carrots out of the refrigerator.

That's mine, "Hey, new kid - I'll tell you one thing and that's all you need to know for the rest of the time you work here.... Don't eat my damn carrots." Enlightening.....

Your turn.

Practice honesty and transparency at all times.

Keep emotion out of the process. Not everyone will like you, and that's ok. That's on them ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Donโ€™t ride the roller coaster. Selling (even at the highest level) is massive ups and downs. ย Most look at this specifically as โ€œdonโ€™t get too lowโ€, but itโ€™s also important not to get too โ€œhighโ€ as well. Focus on the process, focus on the consistency and good habits, remove the emotion from the game and youโ€™ll last over the long haul.ย

Agreed. Lots of ups and downs. Try to ride the middle. Be more forgiving of yourself when the deal doesnโ€™t close and stay hungry when they do.

Doesn't matter if you have a monthly, quarterly or annual quota, you are just a number & you will be reset to 0. Don't be an ass and you'll be ok.

Learning what not to do is just as important as learning what to do. Learn from bad managers, bad sellers, bad co-workers and bad people. And understand why the things they do are bad. And then learn not to do those things.

Your reputation can get dinged up by failed product delivery. It sucks and it happens. But, don't let your reputation get dinged because of something you did.

You're probably going to move jobs a decent amount. Network is essential.

Approach every situation from a position of honesty, whether internally or externally. You want to be trusted by all you do business with. Not everyone will be the same.ย

also, try not to become jaded quickly. It can happen.ย

don't get lazy - you might have a great quarter, but never take your foot off the gas. when the % tracker resets to 0, you need to do it all over again and how you behave after hitting your quota will dictate your success the following quarter.

It is never as good as you think it is and itโ€™s never as bad as you think it is. ย
