The demotion itself must be playing havoc on this guy's mental state...

Salary staying the same is new, but were I in his shoes I'd want that lol

Yeah being demoted and then not performing as an IC will freak anyone out. I'd stick around as his future with the company likely isnt bright.

Was this VP a top performing rep at the company before hand? It makes sense if he is paid more.

I am sure the VP is just super self conscious for now, but will work through it

Let him sit in his own piss? Looks like they are scrambling to show they can do something. I think their salary should be decreased with the demotion. only makes sense, right?

hahaha omg!!! i have never heard of this happening! Why would the ex-vp stay??? i would leave!

if you are a bystander.....just stay out of their way. if there are issues, go to your manager like you normally would.

wow, super awkward!

Iโ€™m guessing heโ€™s not long in that role. Let him fizzle out, just keep your head down and watch from the sidelines.

Was he a good VP? Did he treat the team well?

I've seen this happen but the former VP just left, he didn't want to deal with the demotion.

Maybe moving back to IC will be better for him, especially if he keeps his VP salary long term.

Also does open the door for someone else to try their hand, should they be interested.

As others have said, stay out of the way when you can.

I'm curious as to what you meant about inbound sharing, though.

they demoted him, but because they are unorganized af, don't realize that he still does key things like divvy up the inbound leads etc. so he is turning into a bottleneck and cherry picking the best leads.

FYI - he came on after me, I was best closer before, and best closer now. They made him fire the people he brought on and i still think he can barely demo the product.

That's no bueno.

That said, sounds like he's digging his own hole, so let him. If it's possible to ask your (new) manager, in all innocence "hey, out of curiosity, when is the lead process going to be updated?", I'd do that. And I'd do it in he non-dramatic way of just asking a question.

Never heard of this scenario before. Why would they keep an underperformer at the same pay rate??? The sheer awkwardness this is going to cause for both that ex-VP and the current team is ridiculous. I suppose the real question is if that ex-VP is going to be using his previous title to game the system.

I had the CRO of one of my companies demoted. He did exactly this - hoarded opportunities and sniped everyone who wasnโ€™t him or on his team. Be this personโ€™s friend, but donโ€™t let your guard down as he is willing to turn on you if it makes him money.

Mind your own business. Being demoted is extremely harsh in itself and if thereโ€™s any cut needed heโ€™ll probably be the first one to get hit.
His overhead cost is much higher and from your comment he doesnโ€™t seem to be performing to the level of his salary.

Sometimes companies will try to show you the door (gently or not) instead of straight off firing you and to me it seems like itโ€™s that kind of situation.

Stay out of this persons way. Sounds like they are already on a self-destruct path. They will more than likely manage themselves out of the company and go to "greener pastures" quicker than you think.

I would say just let it ride out. You said in some comments he's an average performer. Unless he has some other sales voodoo he can bring such as connections with customers or whatnot, the company is going to look at the fact that he is 2x+ OpEx and go "hmm, we could have 2 AE's for the price of him", and he'll be shuttled out. Probably a bit of a grace period for both parties. My money is on him not being there longer than a quarter or two.

But I don't think the bystanders need to meddle. From what I have learnt, the more you meddle, the muddier it gets.
