You play the most important role when it comes to your SDR’s morale and effort. As an SDR turned AE, here’s what I’ve found to be helpful from both perspectives...

- get excited about every response regardless of whether or not a meeting is set

- understand the SDR’s career goals and help them however you can

- include your SDR in the sales process and leverage their feedback to make them feel valued beyond an outreach machine

- shout out their efforts to the team when they do something creative or see success

- be a friend and a mentor. Constructive criticism is ok but also don’t be shy to invite them out for a beer or reward them with a lunch here and there.

You want your SDR to want to work. It’s as simple as that.
