BDR reports to their manager, and therefore has responsibilities rolling up that way.

But the best way that I've seen is if the AE and BDR work together to make sure target accounts are covered, and that they coordinate. I met with my dedicated BDR 2X/week and we reviewed the accounts, where things stood, etc. We also Slacked constantly. The BDR would also communicate any campaigns in motion from marketing. It worked very well.

Agree with this. I’m seeing AE’s take a more hands-off approach with their BDR and it’s less effective vs. making a strategy on a monthly even weekly basis. Meeting once a week, refining messaging, going over what’s working and cutting what’s not.

I dont see any reason why you cant each have your own. When I was a BDR, we divided and conquered and it worked well for us.

It’s the AEs job to fill their own funnel.

Having been in both chairs...Obviously it's a collaborative effort

Generally the AE should have a plan for their accounts / territory. Then the BDR should work with the AE to plan the specific actions that will be taken in terms of prospecting.

Essentially the AE is the specialist in what to take to market, and the BDR is the specialist in how.

Strategy VS tactics. Both are important.

Its good to have the AE's thoughts but its up to the BDR

I sit with my BDR and brainstorm on strategies. We list a couple and implement one or two at a time to see how it’s going for 3-4 weeks

My thoughts exactly, in early age startups, biz dev is a black hole.

How can it be for the bdr as it’s the AE guiding the account plan

The sales manager or director. If not them then they both collaborate and share ideas and best practices and come to an agreement

when i was an SDR i would meet with the AE and talk about what accounts they want to be prioritized, of what they are looking for in accounts.

Then i would look through the list i have and see who fits the criteria, rank them A,B,C and find the contact and go after it.

Now as an AE with an SDR that is new, i do more work and do some outreach as well so its more balanced.

So it really depends on the situation, but I would encourage the AE to be involved but not hinder the SDR if they are good.

the BDR and AE should collaborate on the plan and how to attack accounts. It shouldn't be one or the other. Working together will net much better success.

BDRs don't prospect bro, SDRs do, so the correct answer left is AE -> https://youtu.be/EsXvx7D0Vtg?t=68
