Advice For Partnership Talk Tracks?

Hello Savages,

Hope everyone is enjoying this fine Wednesday. Wanted to ask if anyone has any tips or best practices when it comes to cold calling in regards to a partnership. On my current project, I'm cold calling people to try and set up a partnership and have them become Value Added Resellers for us.

I've had some luck on the phone mentioning this call is about a partnership and other times I've been told to go fuck myself as there "Is no way I would partner with someone cold calling me". Anytime I hear the latter response I just imagine the person is having a horrible day, but would greatly appreciate any advice, tips, and/or tricks people have when it comes to cold calling in regards to a partnership rather than selling directly to the prospect.

As always your advice is appreciated, Savages❤️

What are the reasons you’re having success with the companies who don’t tell you to piss off? Maybe the intro becomes “just finalized a partnership with company xyz. Saw you had a similar business model, it feels like a good fit but would want to talk through to be sure and not waste time down the road. Have 5 minutes?”

A lot of times my informs about how our solution helps them easily manage and monitor thousands of screens from one dashboard (I'm selling digital signage) are what draws the prospect in so similar to what AnchorPoint was saying I should just treat it like any other cold call. Provide value and they will listen.

Honestly I have no experience doing this myself, but I feel that you wouldn't need to change all that much about the messaging. Just when you make the offer say "I'd love to set up an intro call in order to see if there's potential for a mutually beneficial partnership."

I like that last line. Thank you SandwichMan. Could also kill for a BLT sandwich rn. You got any plugs?

Personally, I would avoid the word "partnership" as much as possible.  I feel like it implies some sort of concession from each party to make a deal happen.  Which seems like a lot for trying to get an intro call.

This is no different than any other sale: WIIFM?  That is the question they ask the moment they answer and if you do not satisfy that question, the conversation gets cut short quickly. If you are solving a problem for them, they will listen!  You are not selling a partnership, rather, you are helping them increase their bottom line with added value to their current and potential client base.

Great point. Sounds like I should treat it the same as any other cold call: try and provide value. Thanks for the insight AnchorPoint🙌

"There is no try, only do." (and I am not a super fan...LOL)

If you cannot provide value, don't make the call.  Think about it: if we KNOW what we have to offer can change something for the other in a positive light, how easy is that call to make?  It is not selling - it is informing someone of something that will help them and their clients!  You got this.

I am also in the reseller realm of sales for half of my job responsibility. Definitely make it a WIIFM when first speaking with them. It does help in certain areas to say you're working with a competitor of theirs.
Make sure that, just like any sale, you layout the timeline and expectations to keep everything moving and productive.
