B2B space, worth becoming a partner ?

for those who are selling B2B tech via partners (indirect sales) , have you ever thought of becoming a reseller partner all by yourself ?

I see commissions ranging from 15% to 50%

yes you lose base salary and consistent income but if you are about to loose a job (due to company structuring and already have your own pipeline - would you become partner to your own org )

what am I not seeing ?

Nobody likes working with resellers. Buyers hate them. Vendors hate them. They're just middle men driving up costs. They really only work well when they have a catalogue of softwares and utilise economies of scale to offer substantial discounts while still robbing margin.

I guess if you're losing the job anyway and owning your own business is something you want to do, it's worth a shot, but it's never been a space I wanted to work in. Plus, don't forget all the additional work that goes into running a business, which probably won't pay off big unless you have multiple vendors involved.

Can confirm. Am vendor. No love for resellers.

I have not seen much love for resellers. This really is only for those that are looking to get a foot in the door until the manufacturer sees them as a valuable add-on and then they get distributor access.

At the end of the day, it is up to you.

Definitely not a lot of love for these guys. And I like my base, personally.

To be honest, you can potentially know way more about the company and it's roadmap as an insider and able to influence the sale that way compared a partner could ever do. That knowledge gap usually gets worse in time. In general, I think being a "referral" partner than a "reseller" is a better deal and in my experience sales reps love working with them a lot more

Its very common to leave to a partner the second you get put on a PIP. Call one you got a deal with and they will always hire you
