Coaching Check-In

Hey Savages -

Here's a list of questions my VP uses with our team in our 1on1's. My company does a great job at holding space to be authentic and hear our issues.

I'd love to share and hear any responses to provide feedback!

What's the top thing on your mind right this second?

What's using the most mental/emotional energy right now?

What are you most excited about?

What space do you need to spend more time on?

What's one piece of feedback you've received recently?

Any hard conversations you need to have right now?

Where do you need to be held accountable?

Anything else?

These are phenomenal. Not just focusing on performance and pipeline makes all the difference.

People feel validated as PEOPLE, and can this can make all the difference if someone is in a slump.

This is all gold, but aside from accountability and what they need, which are a little more standard but not necessarily common is that you're asking about what's taking the highest EMOTIONAL toll, not just mental.

Great questions that don't cause mental shutdown. Now it's just HOW it's asked.

What are you learning right now?

Love that one. Adding it to the list.

We start dying when we stop desiring to learn/grow.

absolutely, it's great to see what is going on in order figure out what the next steps/direction to give.

If my mentor/manager doesn't know what I'm learning or thinking, then how the hell are they supposed to coach me?

my boss always starts the weekly 1:1 with "anything we have to talk about?" theres only been 1 or 2 times where i actually did but just knowing you have the option helps you feel more comfortable imo

Good leader. Those that check in with your personal well-being are the ones you remember.

I love that its focused on the individual. Letting you set the pace. I am sure there is some back and forth for both sides but the focus is clearly on the reps needs.

That's the beauty in it. It's a moment to truly be authentic and vulnerable. Obviously quotas and metrics are important, but it's in these moments where we feel seen and empowered. In turn, creating thriving mindsets to want to drive the business forward.

Love these, though of course I immediately went to snarky answers:

Whatโ€™s the top thing on your mind right this second? Me: what answer to provide.

Whatโ€™s using the most mental/emotional energy right now? Me: Thinking of an answer to this question.
