For Seed CEOs who sell, or those you know who sell

Seed CEOs, a great article from Chicago Booth Review, found it while prepping the syllabus for a graduate course that I will teach in Spring 2024.

I don't click links either. That is why I don't care about the metrics of clicks. Too many dashboards these days measuring things that shouldn't be measured. The main thing worth measuring is revenue and the ways you got revenue. Don't become all Sabermetrics.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, most won't click.

Hey Dr Joe. If you donโ€™t know where the pain is, donโ€™t prescribe pills.

Agreed. I never prescribe without knowing where the pain is. Full disclosure, I was personally trained by Jim Camp, Start with No (Mentor of Chriss Voss). It always starts with the Pain.

Joe - this isnโ€™t the place to try to become an influencer. Go anon, enjoy the site, help those who need help. Donโ€™t try to sell yourself or your book. And generally CEOs donโ€™t visit this site.

Thanks for the insight. I am not trying to sell a book. Only trying to help sales reps find ways to get better at this game. It is a great game and sometimes outside forces chip away at the confidence. In terms of influencers, just pointing out that there are many sources of information-most are success stories (anomalies)and not necessarily the best way to build knowledge for sales reps trying to build competence. Good luck selling out there.

Please add your personal take for context. Will not click. Come back anonymous, even. Take your shoes off and spit. Just keep it real and most will fly. Welcome.

Not worried about the click rate. Just trying to see how the logistics on this site work. My take, CEOs at Seed have to be selling. No excuses. My past academic research shows 60% of Seed fail to get to Series A & I have seen survey research that 60% fail to meet a sales quota. My current research is looking to see if there is a correlation.

Interesting - and for your next trick, once you've found evidence of what I think is a clear correlation, please tell us how to scale that CEO's brilliant efforts, ultimately removing them from the sales process entirely. :)

All research shows CEOs need to be in the sales process in the beginning. INHO they always need to stay in the process through true PMF (not BS PMF ) and then to some extent in GTMF at least to understand what their sales reps are going through. If you are getting punched in the mouth like your sales reps you have a lot more empathy for what they are going through. More importantly, you get the real picture of how tough it is in the battle. Lead from the front.

Couldnโ€™t agree more. But there is so much โ€œperfect worldโ€ in this. The scenario assumes a CEO capable of empathy and understands how to lead from the front. Maybe thatโ€™s the point of this research.

That is the point of this research. If the CEO doesn't have a Growth Mindset and Theory of Mind (Empathy) odds are stacked against success. The "perfect world"-practitioner part of this research is looking for factors that will help predict if the CEO fits the scenario above. I bet on these CEOs and I am looking to enhance my odds.

Like the Old School Club 3000 Trading Programs. Sign up and learn the secrets of how a trader (Ed Seykota-he was legit)turned 5k into 15mm. He did but it was an anomaly. and won't work for you. Kind of like the SaaS Sales programs touting from 0-100mm. It can happen but the odds are not good. Marc Roberge's (he is legit) Framework is solid. His 0-100mm book is a great read. My unsolicited advice, find a method that works for you, practice that method, and stick to it.
