Job false advertising?

I was recently laid off from a small start up where literally nobody was close to 50% of quota. I get it, it business... but this is the 2nd company in a row that I interviewed with, asked about quota attainment, and was deliberately lied to. I love that sites like RepVue exist now, but I feel like this is the same concept as false advertising, no? was told 75%+ reps were hitting quota, when it wasn't even close to the truth. in hindsight I should have asked for SFDC reports, but curious of everyone's thoughts?

Going through this - I think in hindsight, reaching out to previous reps who had worked at the company would probably be the best bet, but startups never have enough data on their Glassdoor or Repvue that can be validated. Curious as to what other people are doing to mitigate their risk?

Back channeling to people you previously worked there is the best thing to do, everything else take a grain of salt with it

Can't stress this enough. I wouldn't have accepted my current position if I didn't back channel first.

Exactly what I was going to recommend. Any online review system is going to be slanted and faulty. Backchanneling is the way.

Ask them to show you the numbers. OR ask them to speak to a few resps

OR find reps that have left the company and get the reality check.

Exactly! Had to learn the hard way myself, don't trust their word, get proof or hunt it down yourself. I always give candidates the full truth when they're interviewing if they call me.

Everyone lies about quota. It is just how it is. You have to ask people there and those leaving to get the real answer

This happens, no one wants to tell the true story. I al ate set up sometime
with the reps who left, even if I can get one coffee chat I have a lot of information to make a sound decision

Rule of thumb if I interview again in my career...

Ask as many current and former employees their experiences with the company.

No one is going to give you SF reports.

Next time just ask to speak with a current rep.

You lie cuz you need their job and they lie cuz they need you:)
Even if you had to lie about your past to get a job to support your family which somehow can be justified, they should not cuz they didn't have to.
Talking about that I would say if there's a massive difference between their given numbers and reality, just don't to leave it without a buzz on Glassdoor or any other sales sites!!

Yeah- but what ya gonna do if itโ€™s a founding seller role. What I did? No quota. Straight uncapped variable. Obviously thatโ€™s offset by an absolute absence of process, marketing, collateral, zoom account, email address, etc. Startup life

Which type of companies can't grow with advertising?

I am sick and tired of looking for jobs in Sales. A nurse and a construction engineer get jobs in Tech Sales, while a product owner has to beg them on LinkedIn for an opportunity to prove himself.
