Job Hunting Advice

Need advice here - Was recently laid off about six weeks ago. I'm a tenured tech sales professional with over 12 years experience both as an IC and Enterprise Sales Leader. I've done a little bit of shotgun applying, finding DM's on LinkedIn and I've tried having friends submit referrals and still no initial interviews. Would love to know if anyone has any creative ways to get in front of the right people. Would love any insight and/or to connect with anyone!

Honestly, a lot of the creative ways have been tapped out (check the salesGPT/search above, you'll see a ton of responses to this question). So your best shot is via networking and multithreading into the companies you're most interested in.
Recommend that you let your network know you're looking as well, and be as specific as you can about what roles you're looking for.

Also, check the SalesGPT for the "who's hiring" posts that Gasty puts together and see if any of those are relevant and open.

Honestly, the easiest way is referral from people who know you. You might get a few responses but there are thousands of people applying for every job.

For example - I start a new role in 3 weeks. There were over 2k applications according to LinkedIn even through the app is required on the company site. I had a referral in, and the process lasted 3 weeks for an offer (referral to offer). My resume probably wouldn’t have even been looked at if I applied through the portals.

I hear emailing recruiters and attaching your resume has worked for my friend but he’s not in sales, he emails first and says can you give me some insight on the job to see if id be interested in applying then usually sets up a call and talks abt his background and the job and then schedules an interview directly with the recruiter

It’s going to get tough between now and the end of the year. I would reach out to HR and HMs to ask about their hiring plans for Q1. That will be an easier conversation for them and they might be more willing to talk to you now.

FYI, application counts listed on LI are only for people clicking the apply button, not always finishing the application

With 12 years in, you should be canvassing your network.

If I was laid off I’d heavily use a recruiter. Best of luck 🤞🏻
