Switching from real estate sales to tech sales - any tips?

I have about a decade of sales experience between Canada and SoCal and I’m thinking of switching to tech sales (AWS, SaaS, cloud, prop tech, etc) or other sales?

I am open to suggestions in other industries as well.

Any tips on how to transition and where to start? Any companies you suggest to start with?

Any way to find which startups are hiring?

I see that google needs 8-10+ years of tech sales

Looking for 100+ base, OTE 250+ as I am willing to dive in deep and work extra hard.

Open to relocating / remote work / travel & being out in the field.

Would greatly appreciate the referrals as well as any advice.

Thanks!

100k+ Base might be a little tough, without any previous Tech or B2B experience. I know people who have made the transition but more in the 60-70k base range since they started SMB/Mid Market.

Not saying its impossible, if you are a badass and can prove it, then more power to you.

Just have not seen it happen

I would agree with this. I dont see many ppl landing 6 fig base salaries when they dont have industry experience.

I would always try to find saas companies in the real estate world, where your experience would be seen as a positive.

Would start-ups be better in terms of base? Is there a way to find prop-tech or real estate startups?

Startups are hurting bad right now. The Wall Street and VC money faucet got turned off 🥲

Leverage personal connections and existing experience in your search, as others have alluded here.

There's a great article in the academy tab about getting into this field.

Was going to suggest the TechSalesU in the Academy tab but @CuriousFoxbeat me to it.

I'm also inclined to agree with @Kosta_Konfucius- your salary and OTE ambitions are likely unrealistic without direct experience. Even if you were in commercial RE and not B2C, it's still a big change.

*Not saying you don't have the skills, but it'll be a tough sell.

I mean, aim high for sure, but agreed, it's going to be tough. That's the salary for someone in Enterprise already, and that's hard to break into from another category.

If you are in Canada, without Saas sales experience that base is very rare.

I’m in SoCal. If NorCal has better TOC, I’d move there.

Learn the tools of the trade, too many times I see transitioning reps disgruntled by the amount of multi-tasking involved between CRMs and Outreach tools.

If you can master these tools early on, it makes the transition easy as pie.

I moved from RE to Tech Sales, 100k is ambitious but if you can build a case around it more power to you! Asset Class will make an impact moving that needle, Institutional CRE will bode a lot better than a Resi broker.

Shows you can handle multiple stakeholders, budget, more complex deal experience.
