Transitioning from AE to Sales Director at a Series A startup

Currently on a 80k Base / 160k OTE AE salary and been crushing it lately bringing in two key big deals. I was told to grow a key specific market out a bit more and that they'd promote me to a director of sales.

Want to know the rough salary expectations for a director of sales, it's a more technical product/space we're in and I have about 4 years of closing experience. What's the salary bump i should be asking for here?

I’ve seen as much as 300 OTE in similar director roles. Wouldn’t think you’ll get that kind of lift without a serious quota pop. Be careful

You're saying be careful as they'll likely double my OTE but also double my quota correct?

I don’t know if they’ll double your comp, but yeah that’s the caution flag. So many promotions are going unpaid. Cover yourself with very realistic quota goals f you’ve got anything to say about it. ✊

I've worked for pre-IPO SaaS companies and I believe the going rate for a director of sales (reports to a VP of region/VP Sales/CRO-type, is a middle manager, not a individual contributor) is around 150/150 to 200/200.

It can vary though.

What would be the added responsibility and accountability in regards to the new role along with the pay bump? You can still be an IC and still have that fancy SD title BTW..
