Virtual assistant for a salesperson

This might sound crazy but I’m considering hiring a VA and was just curious if anyone in the community has done this as an individual contributor. Was thinking it would free up more time to focus on what generates revenue.

thinking of things like:

  • CRM data entry
  • follow ups
  • Simple prep work and notes
  • maybe even some outbound especially direct mail stuff

has anyone done this and seen success?

If I found out you were allowing an unapproved contractor or 3rd party to log into company systems like the CRM or mail servers…I’d have you on the next truck out to Unemployedville

I rented a place there a couple of times. It’s fucked.

For logging into systems was going to ask approval from my company first

Your company normally let randos log into their stuff?

You planning to give this VA their own credentials or share yours?

I’d expect they’d need to hire them as a contractor for the company that is assigned as a resource to you.

Yeah like we use external BDRs and they have full access to the system but they only make dials not normal BDR work too so was thinking it would work the same

At least your logic makes sense, and it's good you're asking. But maybe some of those external BDRs can also help you out then?

I find rote tasks such as updates and follow ups keep me hyper focused on closing business. It’s think time and a chance to review my own cycle. Maybe you can look at it the same way. Understanding the business better generates more revenue.

Yea I agree with this. Organizing my notes after meetings really helps it stick.

Yeah that’s a good point. I definitely do get value out of that part. Maybe I am just being lazy about internal notes for management and stuff. But I like your mindset shift on it

It's a way to think about the task - you're refreshing your own self and keeping away from lazy habits that are so easy to fall into.

I don't see how you could legally do this.

Also, what will your company think when you ask them? Maybe that you can't do your job? They will find someone to replace you quickly.

Don't shine unnecessary light upon yourself friend.

Good point about shining light. Was going to pitch as more time for the stuff that generates revenue like personalized outbound and moving deals but I hear you

Pair up with your SDR, split it down the middle, 50/50?

It’s funny that this is almost an exact SDR job description without the need to be on the call.

That feels like one of those, “you get what you pay for” kind of things.

Sounds like you're lazy and don't want to do your job. All of those things you mentioned outside of CRM data entry which is vague, generate revenue.

have a call and don't follow up? no revenue
don't do simple prep work or take notes? no revenue
don't do outbound? no revenue

also what @poweredbycaffeine said, great way to just get fired.

a VA isn't going to be the key to breaking into an Enterprise account.

Maybe you are doing it the hard way? CRM data entry - have ready notes for all scenarios in OneNoteFollow ups - works on templates and copy pasteNotes - you could record and transcribe the meetings and use them as notes? And so on

I had one in my first job. They basically did all the borigg nog stuff answered my phone and booked meetings.

I would only use them now to prospect and find good leads

I have had people do this in the past in Director and VP roles (for scheduling and coordinating meetings, and getting follow up inform) and it has worked. I think you can create a bot to do it, but honestly, there are enough tools out there to handle this…also known as an SDR.

Depends on employer. I think it’s a great idea but I wouldn’t risk my job for this. If the company approved, then great.

Why not outsource other things in your life instead, to give you more time to do the tedious parts of the job?

Cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc. those won’t risk sensitive data.
