Well if it isn't the consequences of my actions...

First off - I am a firm believer in privacy and anti-doxxing stuff.

I come here to laugh and read what all the cool kids say about sales.

Here comes the but.

But...

No wonder some of y'all are in an absolute panic about accidentally doxxing yourselves.

The sexist, macho "locker room" talk, the Fleshlight/shower/OF stuff, the racist user pretending to be south Asian (you know who you are). You're right - absolute panic mode right now. Be less shitty. Be better. I'd hate to see your partners, parents or childhood guardians see some of this shit. You're adults - I think. Be better. Anonymity breeds assholes IF you let it.

Bravado - also ask us what we share/want to share. Maybe do exclusive unlocks/badges for opting in etc. I know I am a product being sold, that's part of using this place for free, being open and transparent each step of the way without giving away the farm would be cool. The antithesis of a Meta - tell us how/why/where/when without lawyer speak.

We were supposed to be free to make jokes, provide advice, and give anecdotes on an ANONYMOUS website that are not tracked back to our professional lives. They asked sales pros to give golden info to help each other out and promised it would be private. Shit, they even banned people for doxxing themselves in the early days.

These changes go well beyond how one acts online. Deal stories can sink reps and whole companies if competitors can trace them to specific companies or salespeople.

Why would I ever contribute anything going forward if there is even a hint of my network finding out without my consent?

You got a morality police vibe going on with all your replies to those worried about these changes. If you want publicity stick to linkedin.

Lol, I needed to wait a few days to reply. People are in an absolute panic. Your anonymity hasn't changed. People freaking out over that fact that they "could" be outted. It's always been there. The entire Bravado staff knows who we are.
Anonymous posting breeds edgy comments. Until someone does not get the satire, or the satire is removed. The previous WR before all the cry babies deleted their posts and left was a mess of the circlejerk upvotes and shower/Kahlua garbage.
It's been a better place the last little while.

The lack of moderated content paired with driving away good contributors is part of that.

Personally, I just don’t want to be exposed. I’ve said it on another post - when I’m linked to my company, I am representing that company. And I want to speak openly, not have to be diplomatic. The world will not end if I’m “exposed” but I’m not interested in constraining my opinion the way I do on LI.

This a weak take man. A lot of people air out personal stuff under the assumption that total anonymity would be held. I’ve talked about my kids, travel plans, bosses and asked for help on serious issues which i then got great advice on and I would not have done any of that without the anonymity. It’s up in the air if I contribute here after today.

It’s not a panic. It’s standing up for the values of the community we all joined: increased engagement thorough anonymity.

For all of the upsetting content I’ve posted that has gotten your ire, my contributions have been net-positive. I didn’t get the LT and Officers badge for licking boots. In fact I think Sahil, Ross, Lisa, Caroline, etc, all received my open and honest feedback when requested.

This community has its bright spots and it’s badlands. They balance each-other our and are for more benign than Reddit or other platforms that host similar communities.

If you want me to get off my soapbox and leave, then I’m fine with that. I have done some good things here and I’ve got enough going on in my life that I won’t miss posting on this app. However, if you think I’d be upset that someone saw me posting about interns and fake shower parties then you haven’t spent enough time around VC bros or PE dirtbags. They are total scum and would eat this shit up for brunch.

Im on both sides of this argument, can see what you are saying but also agree with many others that anonymity was the promise of this platform and now thats been put in jeopardy.
Personally, I am who I am and my posts and comments on linkedin are pretty much in the same tone of voice that I use here, maybe less profanity but thats all so eitherway I wont be heartbroken but hey we should stand by our committals.

What was switched? You can and will continue to be anon... They just gave people the option to post IRL too.
The email with linked in connections is just a tailored marketing post. We all signed up linking LinkedIn 😂.
People are/were in a panic because they thought people they knew would be able to figure out who they were.
